Continue ReadingThe Class of 2021 is incredibly deep in Wisconsin. To rank these players is a bit like splitting hairs with many of them being so versatile where they can play multiple positions. We’re taking a closer look at some of the top attackers who have made significant impacts in only two seasons on the high school courts with All State honors and for some a state title. With some having already made their college commitment, there will be plenty more who will be taking that next step. Here are some of the top attackers out of the Class of 2021.
Wolf attacking at the state tournament.Middle Blocker
Anna Wolf – River Falls – MN Select
Committed to Minnesota
Wolf moves up one spot as the number two player in the Class of 2021 after a huge season with the 18-1 team of MN Select that finished in the top eight of USAV 18 Open. Wolf has expanded her game to be able to run more tempos and has added a slide to her offensive game as well. She was hitting off Izzy Ashburn all winter, who is now on the Wisconsin roster. Playing at a high level all winter has really taken Wolf to a spot where she will be dominant on a loaded River Falls roster.
Hattie Bray – Wautoma – FC Elite
Committed to Marquette
Bray picked up a ton of momentum this club season with her speed and athleticism on the FC Elite 18’s team which qualified for 18 USAV Open Division. Everything about Bray is quick and fast with how she can get to pin to block and quickly transition to make her available to swing. Earlier this summer Bray committed to Marquette, making her the third in-state recruit from the Class of 2021 for the Golden Eagles joining Sam Naber of Burlington/Sky High and Ella Foti of Edgewood/Capital.
Alexis Boling – Waukesha West – Milwaukee Sting
Pure power, Boling has a blend of athleticism and power where she is able to score points through any seam as well as having great court vision. Boling was a key part to the Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold’s run to finish in the final eight of the 16 Open Gold Bracket. She will be back on the high school court this fall looking to lead Waukesha West back to the state tournament where they finished in 2018.
Riley at Prep Dig Summer League.Kaitlyn Riley – Catholic Memorial – Milwaukee Sting
Riley is a high flyer and plays with quite the intensity and energy. Much like Bray, Riley has the speed to go from pin to pin while being able to reach and press to take away angles from the opponents outside hitters. Catholic Memorial got knocked out in the sectional rounds last year and will look to get through an extremely rugged section this fall with Kettle Moraine Lutheran and Wisco.
Pin Hitters
Lizzie Binder – Sheboygan North – Milwaukee Sting
Binder has been on the radar to college coaches for a while and has evolved her game to where she can play on either pin and has become extremely dependable in the backrow with be able to serve receive and provide an extra swing. When binder is on the right side she is quite the mismatch where she can spot the open court, but also really shutdown an opposing outside hitter.
Katie Winkler – East Troy – Milwaukee Sting
Winkler attacking for East Troy.Winkler had a major breakout season in 2018 for East Troy, earning All State honors and being part of their D2 state championship squad. With a heavy left handed swing, Winkler is also a shutdown defender on the right side who can find an open shot for a roll or tip.
Cora Behnke – Oconto – FC Elite
Committed to Green Bay
Behnke may be the most recent commit from the Class of 2021, heading to Green Bay which is just over 30 miles from her hometown of Oconto. A key part to the success of FC Elite the past couple seasons, Behnke brings a solid all around game as a six rotation outside that can score points, but is also a really solid passer from middle block or in serve receive.
Mariah Grunze – Waterford – Milwaukee Sting
So steady and consistent. Grunze was fighting her 15s season with injury, but came back strong in her 16s season as an outside hitter for Milwaukee Sting. Efficiency is the name to her game where she can hit a variety of shots, keeps the ball in play, and is solid when it comes to pass to attack situations. She will continue to develop into a solid all around six rotation and will be one of the key leaders for Waterford this fall.
Payton AddinkPayton Addink – Sun Prairie – Capital Volleyball Academy
Committed to Minnesota Duluth
Sun Prairie is going to be a big time contender in Division 1 this year and Addink will play a big part in that from the pin. Addink has always been able to put the ball away, but she has really developed a backcourt and defensive game at the net. She has committed to play for Minnesota-Duluth which is always in contention for being one of the top NCAA Division 2 teams in the country.
Tatum Catalano – Germantown – Milwaukee Sting
Catalano has been a middle blocker, but is really finding a groove on the pin. She has a lot of speed and is quick to the ball. As she continues to develop her all around game and her backcourt defense she will be dangerous becoming an option to attack out of the backrow. Her overall athleticism is tough to top.
Jordan BerglinJordan Berglin – Pewaukee – Midwest Penguins
Berglin may be one who has made the biggest impact over the past year. Her approach touch keeps getting higher and higher which now includes a snap to put a ton of pace on the ball. She was a member of the Badger Region High Performance team this past summer and will be a key piece for Pewaukee this fall, receiving a bulk of the swings as an outside hitter. Her upside is still untouched as she continues to develop an all around game.
Natalie Tesch – Wisconsin Lutheran – Milwaukee Sting
Tesch brings a dynamic all around game to the court with a left handed swing where can swing on the right side or even come out of the middle. This past club season for Sting 16 Gold, she was key as a DS and serving specialist, a pure utility player who will be back for her Junior season for Wisco who fell one match short of getting to state. Tesch had over 200 kills for a team who was 41-8.
Truckenbrod attacking for KMLElle Truckenbrod – Kettle Moraine Lutheran – Milwaukee Sting
Truckenbrod has had quite a year where she found her way on to the KML starting lineup as a Sophomore outside which blossomed into All State honors and a state runner up finish. This past club season, Truckenbrod was one of the top attackers for Sting 16 White who finished in the final four of the AAU Club Division. Aggressive, athletic, and just a winner – she finds a way to get it done. She will be key for KML this upcoming high school season where she will be a primary passer and will receive a bulk of the swings in the front and backrow.
