Continue ReadingGyms across Nebraska this past week were home to many preseason jamboree volleyball matches. My personal opinion as a former head coach is that I absolutely loved it. It was a good chance to calm some jitters and see what we had to improve on before our first real match. It also gave us a chance to iron out some details as far as warm-up routine, etc. I really loved it when I had a very young team because it gave the younger ones some much-needed confidence going into their first varsity match.
I visited with Christina Boesiger the head coach at Norris High School and she felt that jamboree games are a great addition to the high school season. It gives teams a chance to see where they are at against great competition, early in the season Boesiger added. She said it is hard for most varsity teams to simulate a 6 on 6 at that level. After playing in their jamboree triangular against Seward and Lincoln Southwest she felt it gave her some great details as to what skills needed to be addressed in the next week.
Boesiger also added that it is not only beneficial to get a game in before the actual season, but it is also a good fundraiser for a great organization. Proceeds from jamboree matches go to NSAA Hall of Fame.
Norris’ Molly Ramsey said, ” I think they (jamboree matches) are a good addition because it gets us a game under our belts without the stress of it counting towards our overall record.”
Sophomore Maisie Boesiger commented that she thinks the games are great because they were able to try some different things and what was is working and what we need to focus more on in practice.
“I feel like the jamboree games really get us ready for the season. We’ve been playing together most of the summer and pre-season, but the jamboree games let us know the season has finally started and it makes all of us super excited,” Kalli Kroeker added. Overall the addition of the jamboree matches has had a positive effect on Nebraska high school volleyball, including coaches, athletes and volleyball fans! Plus who doesn’t love more volleyball before the season begins!
