For others, it may be bringing back cringing memories of a screen filled of cells and a lot of ERROR statements. There will be no ERROR statements in the article. Middleton is putting on a tournament full of ranked teams and will be one to keep an eye on, especially with some of the top teams in Division 2. Here are some scenarios that we could potentially see using =IF(THEN) statements.
IF Mount Horeb can get Elize Goetzinger the ball, THEN they could win their pool
Pool A has Platteville which needs to not be a secret anymore. The Hillmen are 21-1 and have two big time attackers in Izzy Carrol and Alayna Digman. However, Mount Horeb has Elise Goetzinger, the future Wildcat of Kentucky (You know….the volleyball school now;). At 6’4, extremely athletic, strong, and physical at the net can take over a match. Watching her run a slide is among the best in the country. Players like Goetzinger are scary good, but they have to be in a system where they get the ball. Mount Horeb has knocked off Edgewood and is capable of continuing that momentum.
IF Sauk Prairie can continue their momentum, THEN they beat some ranked teams
The opportunity is there for Sauk Prairie who won 16 matches TOTAL in 2018 and already has 18 wins so far. Libero, Ainsley Apel is a St. Cloud State commit leading the backrow. Sauk Prairie also has Sophomore attacker Aida Shadewald is having a major breakout season with close to 150 kills. Germantown is a clear favorite in their pool, but don’t rule out the Eagles who have plenty to prove.
IF Edgewood can serve receive, THEN they have three-potentially four really solid options to score a ton of points.
I watched Edgewood play at the Sun Prairie tournament where they were able to finish third and take a set off Sun Prairie. With Caroline Craig and Ella Foti running the show as setters, they can score from the floor and dish to a lineup that is tall and athletic. Natalie Ring is a top-five prospect out of the Sophomore class in Wisconsin, but the Crusaders all around are long, athletic and really physical at the net. However, if they are scrambling for the second contact that doesn’t give them a good chance to score. If they can get Craig and Foti in position to do their work they are going to be tough to beat in Division 2.
IF certain matchups play out, THEN it will have a big impact on seeding in Division 2 and Division 3.
The Madison area is so tough for Division 2 and Division 3. These teams are among the top in the state.
Division 2, Section 3 – Platteville, Edgewood, Sauk Prairie, Mount Horeb, Jefferson, Evansville,
Division 3, Section 3 – Cuba City, Wisconsin Heights,
There are eight ranked teams for Section 3 in D2. Platteville, Edgewood, and Mount Horeb are ranked in the top ten with Sauk Prairie right on the edge. This is going to be a battle and will be important come seeding time, especially for teams hoping to get home-court advantage heading into the Regional Finals. Cuba City and Wisconsin Heights will be battling it out for a top spot in their section, but will also have Waterloo to go through to get to the Resch. These early-season tournaments are a great learning experience, but when it comes to two teams with similar records and schedules, they will always take a look at head to head, even if it did happen in a September Tournament.
