This past week was a little of both for me. I don’t keep my own stats, I like to be able to evaluate a solid performance based on what I see (however, if I were coaching and making decisions on who should play then I’d definitely be keeping stats:). Here are some top performances from the past week with athletes really making a big impact for their team.
Brianna Geurts – De Pere
De Pere vs. Notre Dame
The Junior pin hitter and her team were down 0-2 to Notre Dame Academy. After playing the front row on the right side the first two sets, a switch was made to put Geurts on the outside playing six rotations. Major gamechanger. Geurts was able score from the outside as well as the backrow bringing the Redbirds back to tied the match at 2-2 before falling in the fifth set. Overall, Geurts has the strength and physicality to really be a threat all around.
I’m so not an insta story creative person….but I’m trying. Katherine Walch of @tritonvb is committed to @mtuwvb – she is all over, so fun to watch! pic.twitter.com/Hrn8XbeYpO

Katherine Walch – Notre Dame
De Pere vs. Notre Dame
The Senior libero is everywhere and is extremely solid in all facets of her game. Serve receive is on point and she’s not afraid to dive into the stands for the ball. A clear leader for the Tritons, Walch has committed to play at Michigan Tech (NCAA Division 2).
Maddy Pearson – Kimberly
Maddy Pearson, Kimberly
Oshkosh West vs. Kimberly
An exciting night at Kimberly High School Thursday between the Papermakers and Oshkosh West. Kimberly was able to win 3-0 with all sets being extremely tight. Maddy Pearson has primarily been a setter, but Thursday she was hitting on the right side and setting in the backrow. Great hands with a smooth release, Pearson was able to show some power and explosiveness attacking on the right side. She has committed to play at UW-Oshkosh. Fun fact for Maddy Pearson is that she is a triplet with her sister, Courtney on the team and her brother Logan recently committed to playing basketball at UW-Platteville.
Mckenna Wucherer – Brookfield Central
Brookfield Central Lancer Invite
The eraser, she just is able to score points out of any situation. Her name will be household in the Wisconsin volleyball community if it isn’t already, but what sets her apart is her ability to score points in the backrow. Again, just an eraser.
Brooke Mosher – Waterloo
Brookfield Central Lancer Invite
Mosher really does it all. The top ranked player in the Class of 2021 swings in the front row and sets when she goes to the back. She makes a great combination with fellow Junior, Joslyn Wolff. Mosher and Wolff play opposite of each other, taking turns setting and hitting. Besides Mosher’s athleticism and skill is her volleyball IQ where she can really get creative in how she can score points.
Depth of Arrowhead and Appleton North
Brookfield Central Lancer Invite
I had the privilege of doing some broadcasting with W7 Productions who will also be at the Charger Rally this weekend, but next to the BC/DSHA match was Arrowhead vs. North. Just power vs. power and plenty of it from all positions. These two teams are full of talent not only on the court, but from their bench as well. Arrowhead has a little more experience than North, but both sides of the net are entertaining to watch. Maybe a rematch again this weekend?
Erin Powers – Mukwonago and Nicole Pozorski – Mukwonago
Erin Powers attacking for Mukwonago
Brookfield Central Lancer Invite
Seniors just know how to do some special things. Pozorski was the top setter in the tournament with her ability to score points and dish to her teammates. So savvy and crafty. Teams knew she was going across on the second contact and she still found open spots. This puts so much pressure on the defense. Powers, the top libero out of the Senior class plays on the outside for Mukwonago where she is able to pinpoint her shots to score. The IQ of both of these athletes is through the roof and make Mukwonago a real sneaky team. They had BC on the ropes at 9-9 in set three.
Abby Wucherer – Brookfield Central
Brookfield Central Lancer Invite
Wucherer had a tough Sophomore/Junior year with a knee injury that forced to sit a significant amount of time. Now a Senior, Wucherer is running the
Stigler, #1 with her teammates for Falls
middle and provides such a calming presence for her team through her body language and her ability to come up big in tense situations. Always looking for the deep corner and open spots, she is able to do much for the Lancers.
Kady Stigler – Menomonee Falls
Brookfield Central Lancer Invite
What an athlete. Stigler is strong and quick, a clear leader on her side of the net. Falls got a big win against West Bend West, took a set off Arrowhead, and had a win against Mukwonago. They play with energy and enthusiasm. Having a libero like Stigler is key for any program to continue to build with.
