Continue Reading2019 is a the year of the Freshmen. All across the state 9th graders can be found in starting line-up, leading stats, and as key play-makers for a dozen of teams. Here are few freshmen prospects that are catching our eye.
HVL Conference:
Rylee Nelson; Zumbrota-Mazeppa,5’5” S/DS – A powerful player who strength is her speed and explosiveness. The daughter of head coach, Lisa Nelson, Rylee has grown up around volleyball and has a strong understanding of the game. She leads her team in setting assists and service aces. She’s played for SMV and most recently, Northern Lights. Her fellow teammate and freshmen, Megan Schoenfelder (5’11” MH) have played together for years and have an excellent connection on the court. Megan is a playmaker with her blocking and variety of hits.
Tessa Erlandson; Kenyon Wanamingo, 5’6” OH – Although this top ranked team hasn’t needed the young player yet, she is ready for the fast-paced competition. Dominating the junior varsity team with her explosive hitting, Erlandson’s arm-swing is fast and her snap is sharp. Look for her to be a great player off the bench whenever the Knights need her.
South Suburban Conference:
Mya Cinnamo; Rosemount, 5’8” OH – Back for her second season on the varsity team, Mya has become a key piece of the Irish offense. In the first week of action, she had 17 kills in their five set win against Cretin-Derham Hall. Of course she has a great swing, but she really understands how to use her blockers to her advantage.
Three Rivers Conference:
Lauren Delger; St Charles, 5’6” OH – Delger is a a well balanced player, making big plays in the front and back row as a starter. Her high-energy style of play is entertaining and essential to her teams’ success. She serves as the leader for the Saints, although she doesn’t lead any stat yet, she makes huge plays at key times to keep the momentum on her side.
Gopher Valley Conference:
Lindsay Hanson; Bethlehem Academy, 5’11” RS – Last year Hanson got some court time as an 8th graders. She’s back as a freshmen now, and although she isn’t a key component of their offense currently, she is stronger and more experienced. And will be a great player off the bench for them.
