PC Varsity Invitational – Saturday at Portage Central
Portage Central, an HM team in D1, hosts a solid field this Saturday for the PC Invite. Included in this tournament as Grand Rapids Christian, the top-ranked team in D2, and Schoolcraft, the top-ranked team in D3. Division 1 powers DeWitt (No. 9), Lake Orion (No. 15), Byron Center (No. 19) and Rockford (No. 24) are also in the mix, as well as traditionally strong programs like East Grand Rapids and Gull Lake. This tournament should be a good test for GRC, which has looked very tough this season. Schoolcraft will also get a chance to really test itself against the best of the best in the state.
Cadillac Invitational – Saturday at Cadillac
Another competitive tournament this weekend will take place in Cadillac, where our eighth-ranked team in D2 hosts a 16-team field of contenders. Including at Cadillac is Hamilton (No. 3 D2), Coopersville (No. 4 D2), Grant (HM D2), Kingsley (HM D2) and Traverse City St. Francis (No. 12 D3). This tournament seems very much up for grabs and will be a good indicator of where some of the more northern teams are in the big picture.
Heritage Invite – Saturday at Saginaw Heritage
Some mid-division contenders will gather in Saginaw this weekend for the Heritage Invitational on Saturday morning. Grand Blanc (No. 14 D1) is one of a few Division 1 programs in the mix in this field, but it also includes Corunna (No. 11 D2), Freeland (No. 20 D2), Saginaw Valley Lutheran (No. 8 D3) and Beal City (No. 16 D3). This is a great tournament to catch some of the programs from the Bay City/Saginaw/Flint areas. It will features some standout talents from Divisions 1, 2 and 3.
Portage Northern Huskie Invitational – Saturday at Portage Northern
Just down the road from Portage Central, Portage Northern will be hosting a tournament of its own. Highlighting the field is Division 3 power Bronson (No. 5), which will get a lot of good tests from bigger programs like Niles (No. 13 D2), Flushing, Battle Creek Lakeview and more. This tournament is a nice chance for some teams to really move up the rankings, so it should be an exciting tournament.
Davison Tournament – Saturday at Davison
Another tournament with a few noteworthy competitors takes place in Davison. The Cardinals are honorable mention in Division 1 right now, but can make a big jump up if it can navigate a field that includes Ann Arbor Skyline (No. 6 D1) and North Branch (No. 9 D2). Skyline comes in as the favorite, and this will be a good chance for the Eagles to work on their passing and serving to compliment their tremendous hitters.
