There is also a time after the Senior season where they might toy with the idea of just hanging up the volleyball career, focusing strictly on academics, and writing the next chapter. I try and stay away from bothering Seniors with what their plans are because I know its awkward and a question I know can be so annoying to answer over and over again when you aren’t quite sure. Here are some Seniors who I know would make a great fit at the next level.
Carlee Doering – Kimberly
Doering and Pearson for Kimberly.Doering is in that category of middle blockers who are just under six feet tall, but are so athletic going from pin to pin. Doering has held down the middle for Kimberly and FC Elite the past two years. She suffered a season-ending injury in the sectional final in 2018 and was unable to play in the state tournament, but has bounce backed even stronger. She is very terminal attacking off one foot and has great timing and positioning when it comes to blocking.
Courtney Pearson – Kimberly
Pearson put on quite a show at the state tournament last year for Kimberly with nearly 30 kills in a quarterfinal loss to Burlington. A few weeks later, Pearson tore her ACL playing basketball and was out the next nine months. However, she’s back, she’s still a top athlete in the area and is part of a successful Kimberly squad that has made its way back to the sectional semifinals.
Madelyn Kelly – Verona
Kelly has been a force in the middle for Verona and Capital Volleyball Academy the past couple years where she can run various tempos in the middle and can attack on the slide this well. At 6’1 and dynamic, she would be a great fit at the next level with her experience playing at a high level as well as successful teams.
Brooke Clement – Bay Port
Clement has the athleticism to do it all and there is an untapped level that is still there for her. One of the top players in the FRCC, Clement was a big reason why Bay Port was able to claim the title and rack up nearly 30 wins this year. She has the physicality at the net and plays with a spark and fire that all teams are looking for.
Brooke ClementEmma Oelhafen – Xavier
Oelhafen has always been a utility-type player who can play a variety of positions, but this past high school season, Oelhafen has really had a breakout season on the pin where she has been able to score a ton of points. The new single-season record holder at Xavier in kills in a season, Oelhafen will have another match this week to extend her career when Xavier takes on Little Chute Thursday night.
Caroline Craig – Edgewood
Craig has been a consistent force for Capital Volleyball Academy where she played up on the 18 Adidas squad last year and is well over 1000 assists in her high school career at Edgewood. A savvy player in all rotations, Craig knows the game and is able to dish and even take it herself to score points when the situation is right.
Emily Larson – Arrowhead (Title Photo – Blue Jersey)
Arrowhead has always been known for its height, athleticism, physicality, and power. However, Emily Larson has been leading the defense for the Warhawks as their libero the past two years. She may not have the height of their six foot tall attackers, but she has the physicality and athleticism to make a great addition to a college team at the next level.
Abby Doerre – River Falls
Doerre has been a big part of the club basketball scene in Western Wisconsin, but will be looking to take the volleyball route for college. The starting libero for River Falls has been well trained and knows what it’s like to play in a big game setting. She has really strong lateral quickness, solid platform, and a ton of athleticism. She will key for the Wildcats who will be looking to get back to their fourth straight state tournament appearance.
Lizzy FortuneAubree Bucheger – Oconto
Bucheger started her career out playing mostly on the pin, but is now holding down the libero jersey for Oconto, a top team out of Northeast Wisconsin. Bucheger has a really athletic style of play where she is a strong libero with her serve receive and taking pace of the ball, but as a defensive specialist, she would be an outlet attacking out of the back row with her jump and skills she learned as an outside hitter.
Lizzy Fortune – McFarland
McFarland advanced to the sectional final in 2018 and this year they have 36 wins and will be playing to go to the sectional final once again. Fortune has been a major part of this program running the show as a setter. Well trained, high IQ, and a great culture fit at the next level.
