Erin Lamb Decides on Kentucky
Stewartville Tigers, junior star, Erin Lamb has made up her mind.
Volleyball is now her sport. This talented player who has been an important part of the Tigers volleyball program since eighth grade has also gained attention for her strong efforts on the basketball court. In fact, her Hudl page shows all basketball pictures and highlights; and, with over 2,000 people (who have viewed her highlight reels) one could assume basketball was her top sport. The U of M Women’s basketball coach, Lindsey Whalen, had even attended a few of her games to see the young power forward.
She helped the Tigers finish third in the competitive HVL amongst top teams Lake City and Rochester Lourdes. Many of the Stewartville basketball fans probably had high hopes for this season and the next, but unfortunately they will have to find a way to win without Lamb.
Part of her announcement included that she will playing club volleyball in the cities all winter, forgoing the basketball season completely. Last year she was on the MN Northern Lights 16-1 team, where she will likely play again. It would be nearly impossible to commit to both the high school’s basketball schedule and weekly practices in the cities. This is a huge loss for their basketball team.
From Tiger to Wildcat. Lamb will trade the maroon and gold for blue and white in two years when she attends the University of Kentucky on a full athletic scholarship. She had considered the U of M too, like Stewartville alumni Paige and Hannah Tapp, but they were unable to offer her as much financial compensation. It should be a great fit. Her competitive instinct will likely earn her a spot in their rotations early on.
Until then, we can see her and the Tigers make a run for the state tournament. Hopefully, she can stay healthy this season. Currently ranked first in Class AA, this could be the year they can defeat rivals Kasson-Mantorville.
These decisions can’t be easy, but when all options are great ones, Erin and her family can feel confident in their exciting choices! And until then, we will enjoy watching her here in Minnesota.
