Teams: Wakefield-Marenisco, Bessemer, Ontonagon, Ewen-Trout Creek, Watersmeet
Prediction: Wakefield-Marenisco was last year’s district champion and the Panthers get a lot of big games against out-of-state opponents to get them ready for this week.
District 98 at Chassell
Teams: Baraga, Painesdale Jeffers, Chassell, Dollar Bay, Lake Linden-Hubbell
Prediction: Lake Linden-Hubbell navigated this field a year ago without dropping a set. It may not be that easy this time around for the Lakes, but I still like them to win.
District 99 at Stephenson
Teams: Felch North Dickinson, Hannahville Nah Tah Wahsh, Powers North Central, Carney-Nadeau, Stephenson, Crystal Falls Forest Park
Prediction: Nobody in the state has a better name than Hannahville Nah Tah Wahsh, but that won’t be enough to keep Carney-Nadeau from getting another district title. I like the Wolves to top Stephenson in an exciting final.
District 100 at Eben Junction Superior Central
Teams: Munising, Rapid River, Rock Mid Peninsula, Eben Junction Superior Central
Prediction: This should be a really competitive foursome. They are familiar opponents that have played in close matches this year. Rock Mid Peninsula is my pick, as their results in those matches look a little stronger.
District 101 at Newberry
Teams: Newberry, Rudyard, Brimley, Engadine
Prediction: Rudyard will have to beat the home team in the semifinals to win the title, but the Bulldogs are too talented to slip up this week.
District 102 at St. Ignace
Teams: St. Ignace, Cedarville, DeTour, Pickford, Mackinac Island
Prediction: I expect a competitive district in St. Ignace. In the end, Pickford is my pick to emerge with the title. The Panthers have the potential to be a real threat in weeks to come.
District 103 at Pellston
Teams: Pellston, Alanson, Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian, Harbor Springs Harbor Light Christian, Mackinaw City
Prediction: Northern Michigan Christian has had an impressive season and will be a team to keep an eye on in future rounds.
District 104 Hillman
Teams: Hillman, Wolverine, Posen, Vanderbilt, Onaway
Prediction: Onaway is a battle-tested program that should be a bit too tough for anyone else in this bracket.
District 105 at Boyne Falls
Teams: Ellsworth, Central Lake, Boyne Falls, Bellaire, Gaylord St. Mary, Alba
Prediction: Bellaire is the team I like to emerge from this district, but there are a lot of potential winners. The Eagles will have to be on their game.
District 106 at Frankfort
Teams: Leland, Onekama, Brethren, Bear Lake, Frankfort, Manistee Catholic Central
Prediction: Leland has had an interesting season, but the Comets are still one of the elite programs in Division 4. I don’t see anyone in this district upsetting them.
District 107 at Buckley
Teams: Mesick, Buckley, Fife Lake Forest Area, Marion, Traverse City Christian, McBain Northern Michigan Christian
Prediction: Traverse City Christian is my favorite in this district. The Sabres are knocking on the door of being a contender for Battle Creek, they just need to limit their mistakes.
District 108 at Hale
Teams: Mio, Hale, Fairview, Au Gres-Sims, Atlanta
Prediction: Mio and Hale met in the district final last year and played to five set. This year they meet in the opener, but I still think the winner earns the title. The Eagles have the home-court, so I will side with them.
District 109 at Big Rapids Crossroads Academy
Teams: Walkerville, Pentwater, Big Rapids Crossroads Academy, Baldwin, Mason County Eastern
Prediction: Pentwater has to win three matches to earn the championship, but the Falcons know what it takes to win a district title.
District 110 at Ashley
Teams: Fulton, Ashley, Portland St. Patrick, Fowler, Vestaburg
Prediction: There are some conference foes that will cross paths in this district, but ultimately look for Fowler to prevail. The Eagles consistently perform in the postseason.
District 111 at Coleman
Teams: Breckenridge, Coleman, Merrill, Midland Calvary Baptist, Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart
Prediction: Sacred Heart has been a tough out in the postseason, but Merrill is a cut above this season. The Vandals have their sights set on Battle Creek.
District 112 at Akron-Fairgrove
Teams: Bay City All Saints, Akron-Fairgrove, Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary, Saginaw Nouvel, Saginaw Arts & Sciences
Prediction: This isn’t an easy district to pick, but Saginaw Nouvel has some impressive wins over D3 programs and I think the Panthers will find a way to the championship.
District 113 at Fruitport Calvary Christian
Teams: Holland Calvary, Fruitport Calvary Christian, Muskegon Catholic Central, Walker West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science, Muskegon Heights Academy
Prediction: Fruitport Calvary Christian and Muskegon Catholic Central are next to each other in our D4 rankings and could meet in the district final. Fruitport has the home floor, but the Crusaders have won two meetings this year. I will go with MCC.
District 114 at Battle Creek St. Philip
Teams: Battle Creek St. Philip, Martin, Byron Center Zion Christian, Battle Creek Calhoun Christian, Wyoming Tri-unity Christian,
Prediction: Though its been since 2014 that Battle Creek St. Philip last won the state championship, the Fighting Tigers are still one of the best in D4 each year. I don’t see anyone beating them on their home floor.
District 115 at Mendon
Teams: Marcellus Howardsville Christian, Covert, Climax-Scotts, Mendon, Lawrence, Kalamazoo Heritage Christian
Prediction: Mendon is the defending Division 4 state champ and should be among the favorites to win it all again this year. I don’t see the Hornets slipping up this week.
District 116 at Three Oaks River Valley
Teams: Eau Claire, St. Joseph Michigan Lutheran, St. Joseph Lake Michigan, New Buffalo, Benton Harbor Countryside Academy, Three Oaks River Valley
Prediction: New Buffalo is my pick in this one. The Bison have played a competitive schedule that should have them ready for postseason play.
District 117 at Colon
Teams: Coldwater Pansophia Academy, Tekonsha, Burr Oak, Colon, Athens
Prediction: This district is anyone’s to win, but I will side with the home team of Colon. Plus, they are the Magi. You have to like that mascot.
District 118 at Pittsford
Teams: Litchfield, Hillsdale Will Carleton Academy, Hillsdale Academy, Pittsford, Camden-Frontier, Waldron
Prediction: Things should get interesting here, as there will be a great final no matter who makes it through during the week. Camden-Frontier and Hillsdale Academy seem like the favorites and I give the edge to the Redskins for the championship.
District 119 at North Adams-Jerome
Teams: Jackson Christian, Ann Arbor Rudolf Steiner, Britton Deerfield, Adrian Lenawee Christian, North Adams-Jerome, Livingston Christian
Prediction: This is a nice district with some solid teams, but Adrian Lenawee Christian is the team I feel best about. The Cougars seem postseason-ready.
District 120 at Webberville
Teams: Webberville, Marshall Academy, Lansing Christian, Starr Albion Prep, Morrice, Bellevue
Prediction: Lansing Christian has been testing itself all season to be ready for the postseason. The Pilgrims also have one of the top players in all of Division 4 in Ashley Nordmann.
District 121 at Southfield Christian
Teams: West Bloomfield Frankel Jewish Academy, Plymouth Christian, Lutheran Westland, Southfield Christian, Westland Huron Valley Lutheran, Novi Christian Academy
Prediction: A pair of top-10 teams should meet in the final. Plymouth Christian is a contender in most districts, but Southfield Christian has had its number all year and is motivated to return to Battle Creek.
District 122 at Allen Park Inter-City Baptist
Teams: Taylor Trillium Academy, Allen Park Inter-City Baptist, Melvindale Academy, Westland Universal Learning Academy
Prediction: Allen Park Inter-City Baptist ran through this district a year ago and I expect the Chargers to do the same at home this year.
District 123 at Bloomfield Hills Roeper
Teams: Southfield Manoogian, Detroit Southeastern, Detroit Public Safety, Warren Michigan Math & Science, Detroit Academy of the Americas, Bloomfield Hills Roeper
Prediction: This is a district that seems like it could go a million different ways, but when that’s the case, the safe bet is the home team. I will go with Bloomfield Hills Roeper.
District 124 at New Haven Merritt Academy
Teams: Marine City Cardinal Mooney, Kimball New Life Christian, Chesterfield Austin Catholic, New Haven Merritt Academy, Sterling Heights Parkway Christian
Prediction: Sterling Heights Parkway Christian and Marine City Cardinal Mooney battled for the district title last year. They’d meet in the semifinal this year, but the winner should emerge with the title. I will pick the Eagles.
District 125 at Auburn Hills Oakland Christian
Teams: Auburn Hills Oakland Christian, Pontiac Academy for Excellence, Waterford Our Lady, Clarkston Everest Collegiate, Auburn Hills Christian
Prediction: Auburn Hills Oakland Christian is a young team, but plenty experience. Playing in a tough MIAC conference should have the Lancers ready for the postseason. I see them beating Waterford Our Lady in the district final.
District 126 at Flint International Academy
Teams: Swartz Creek Valley, Flint International Academy, Burton St. Thomas More Academy, Genesee Christian, Burton Madison Academy
Prediction: Genesee Christian is my pick in this district. There’s not a lot to go on, but you have to support the Soldiers.
District 127 at Kingston
Teams: Mayville, Peck, Dryden, Kingston, Genesee, Carsonville-Port Sanilac
Prediction: Dryden has the bragging rights over everyone in this district. It should be the Cardinals’ championship to lose.
District 128 at Kinde North Huron
Teams: Caseville, Kinde North Huron, Ubly, Deckerville, Owendale-Gagetown
Prediction: Ubly had a slow start to the 2019 season, but the Bearcats seemed to have turned a corner in the last month and could play spoiler in the big picture.
