Evidently the Warriors positive thoughts have prevailed!
If you think the 2017 and 2018 defending Class C-1 champion Wahoo needed a rebuilding year after losing a talented senior class, they just reloaded.
Returning for the Warriors include two second team super state players in sophomore Mya Larson (545 kills, .400 hitting efficiency, 314 digs, 342 serve receptions) and junior Elle Glock (97% serving, 31 blocks, 218 digs, 899 assists), now committed to University of Southern California, and honorable mention all-staters senior Kendal Brighman (319 digs, 344 serve receptions), senior Lillie Mann (163 kills), junior Kelsie Sears (218 kills, 70 aces, 344 digs, 428 serve receptions), and junior Lauren Kavan. Sophomores Josie Sutton and Taylor Luben (236 digs) round out the rotations. The Warriors are coached by Trish Larson.
The Warriors (28-3) enter the state tournament as the #2 seed with their only C-1 setback to #5 seed Broken Bow in the Seward Tournament on September 21. They face #7 seed Norfolk Catholic (23-6) in the first round at 5:30 p.m. at Lincoln North Star High School. Broken Bow deterred Wahoo from playing #3 seed Lincoln Lutheran in an anticipated championship game at the Seward Tournament. Lincoln Lutheran and #6 seed Chadron play on the same side of the bracket. Will we have a rematch of last years’ championship in the semifinals?
The competitive spirit will be high in Lincoln this weekend! But, really, it all comes down to these young ladies being great stewards of the sport and we appreciate them for that. Volleyball proves to be a big part of their life, but read on and you might learn a little more about these athletes. Their ever-thinking minds are amazing!
