Omaha, Skutt Catholic Gearing Up To Host Premier High School Tournament In The Country
When locations have high level volleyball and some of the best facilities in the country, teams will come from across the country to play. Skutt Catholic out of Omaha will be hosting the BSN SkyHawk Invite on October 10, 2020 at the Union Bank and Trust Complex in Omaha that features eight teraflex courts.
Skutt Catholic is currently on an impressive run in Nebraska winning the past five state titles in their class as well as finishing runner-up in the prestigious Asics Challenge in Chicago this past fall. The SkyHawks will return Lindsay Krause, a Nebraska commit on the outside who spent the first part of her high school season with the USA National Team. Setter and Arizona State commit, Allison Gray commit will return as will outside hitter and UNO commit, Shayla McCorrmick.
The tournament already has top teams from around the country committed and looking for more. Tournament will be on Saturday, October 10, with an option for Friday night matches.
Who Is All Coming?
Skutt Catholic (NE)
Lincoln East (NE)
West Des Moines Valley (IA)
St. Thomas Aquinas (KS)
Lee’s Summit West (MO)
St. Teresa’s Academy (MO)
Sterling High School (IL)
Metairie Park County Day (LA)
Who Would Be Great Additions To This Field?
Nebraska Squads – Papio, Papio South, Millard North, Pius X, Gretna, Elkhorn South, Duchesne, and plenty more!
Eagan (MN) – With the MSHSL rules, this, unfortunately, will not happen as teams in Minnesota are only allowed to compete in neighboring states. This has been a topic of the debate for high school basketball squads where with girls and boys field they have had top teams in the country, but are not allowed to compete in invitational tournaments outside bordering state lines. Eagan is the defending state large school champions with plenty of star power on the roster with Kennedi Orr. Orr was teammates with Krause on the USA Youth National Team and will be on the same side as Krause when they take the court at Nebraska in 2021.
WuchererBrookfield Central (WI) – Mckenna Wucherer will be a Junior at Brookfield Central High School and will be one of the top Juniors in the country next year. The 6’2 Class of 2022 prospect is committed to Minnesota and has been since 8th grade.
Howards Grove (WI) – The defending D3 state champions brings back an incredibly young and talented team with Dayton commit Karissa Kaminski on the outside as well as top 2023 libero, Saige Damrow who is already committed to Wisconsin.
Mercy (MI) – Always one of the top programs out of Michigan from the Detroit area, they graduated one of the top players in the country in Jess Mruzik, but will have the top player out of Michigan in the Class of 2021 in Julia Bishop who has committed to Michigan State.
Nazareth (IL) – Nazareth and Skutt had quite the battle at the Asics Challenge this past season and there was nothing but respect and praise from both teams. Hurta can do it all from setting to swinging as one of the top Sophomores in the country. She has already given her verbal to Indiana.
Xavier (IA) – Xavier will have an incredibly loaded Senior class coming back with Eve Magill (Creighton) and Jaz Yamilkoski (Tennessee Tech). Elyse Winter and Katy Garrison are two others who will be really solid pick ups at the next level.
