Here are six Louisville sophomore setters to watch.
Alice Kempf: A 5-8 sophomore setter, Kempf is a student-athlete from Sacred Heart Academy. An accurate passer who has excelled on multiple levels, Kempf communicates well to teammates and continues to help lead. The productive Kempf is competing for KIVA 16 White.
Abby Powell: A 5-9 setter/opposite hitter, Powell is a another student-athlete from Sacred Heart Academy. Splitting her time between setter and opposite hitter, Powell has shown the ability to be a solid passer in addition to being a consistent hitter from the left side. Powell is competing for KIVA 16 White.
Emily Surbaugh: A 5-9 setter/defensive specialist, Surbaugh is a student-athlete from Male High School. A young sophomore, Surbaugh has thrived both offensively and defensively throughout her volleyball career. A proven leader, Surbaugh has the ability to block, serve and play defense at various spots on the floor. Surbaugh is competing for KIVA 15 Red.
Ella Teeley: A 5-10 sophomore setter, Teeley is a student-athlete from KHSAA State Runner-up Mercy Academy. Regularly using height to her advantage, Teeley gets into solid position and sets the ball in transition effectively. Teeley is competing for Union Asics 16-1.
Callahan Wiegandt: A 5-8 sophomore setter, Wiegandt is a student-athlete from Holy Cross High School. Among the leaders for her high school team during the 2019 prep season, Wiegandt recorded 897 assists and 180 digs in 37 matches. Wiegandt is competing for KIVA 16 Black.
Madi Winfield: A 5-9 sophomore setter, Winfield is another student-athlete from perennial state title contender Mercy Academy. Looking to emerge as a contributor for Mercy Academy later in the year, Winfield is a solid blocker from the right side and shows much potential as a passer. Winfield is competing for Union Asics 16-2.
