Here are five 8th Region defensive specialists to watch.
Hope Baker: A junior defensive specialist/setter, Baker is a student-athlete from Woodford County High School. Baker was instrumental as Woodford County compiled a 31-9 record and finished as the 8th Region runner-up. Versatile, Baker posted 337 digs, 57 assists and 57 service aces during the 2019 high school volleyball season. Baker is consistent and a strong server who has shown tenacity throughout her high school career.
Kamryn Bledsoe: A sophomore defensive specialist/libero, Bledsoe is a student-athlete from Gallatin County High School. A defensive standout, Bledsoe logged 229 digs in only 62 sets during the 2019 high school volleyball season. Productive as both a defensive specialist and a libero, Bledsoe is athletic and agile. Bledsoe is a precise passer who reads blocks accurately and continues to grow as a player.
Victoria Isles: A junior defensive specialist, Isles is a student-athlete from Walton-Verona High School. Isles led Walton-Verona in digs during her junior campaign and will be among the squad’s top players back for the 2020 high school volleyball season. Isles is a high level communicator who routinely provides quality passes to transition her team from defense to an efficient offensive set.
Karly McNeil: A junior defensive specialist, McNeil is a student-athlete from North Oldham High School. McNeil helped to lead North Oldham (28-9) to an 8th Region title in 2019, recording 412 digs and 60 assists in 36 matches. Thanks in part to McNeil, North Oldham reached the 2019 KHSAA Volleyball Tournament State Semifinals. One of the state’s top players, McNeil is quick and excels in passing and serving.
Beka Sargent: A junior defensive specialist/right side, Sargent is a student-athlete from Simon Kenton High School. Sargent helped to pace Simon Kenton from multiple positions during the 2019 high school volleyball season, registering 394 digs, 203 kills, 53 service aces and 45 assists in 36 matches. A stellar hitter from the right side, Sargent thrives with her defensive specialist duties as well. Sargent is a stout server who uses her athleticism to move well.
