Brian Kim of Unified Volleyball in Rochester Hills has a pretty relaxed approach to what comes next for this year’s Seniors, and rightfully so.
“We don’t have an 18U team this year,” said Kim.
For plenty of other organizations the reality is a very different one. Plenty of clubs across the state do have 18U squads and with that comes the eventual question of which, if any, players will go on to play at the next level.
For Legacy Volleyball, which has locations in Novi, Canton, Sterling Heights and Commerce Township, most of its 18U players have signed their collegiate letter of Intent. As for those that haven’t, this includes…
NICOLE HUGHES
“She is interested in going to school within 10 hours of Denver (where her family is moving to) and is considering schools in that geographical area,” said Legacy Volleyball club director Jennifer Cottrill.
A member of the class of 2020 at Ann Arbor Pioneer and Legacy ADIDAS 18-2 according to Legacyvolleyballcenter.com, Hughes is five-foot-10 and plays Middle Blocker and Right Side.
ISABELLA GIUFFRIDA
“(She) wants to go to school in the Southern States,” Cottrill said.
Also unsigned and looking for the best opportunity available includes Rebecca Michela and Isabella Giufrida of Legacy 18-Elite Boost.
At Michigan Volleyball Academy in Grand Rapids the list of athletes moving on to the college game from the class of 2020 is rather impressive, as well. That doesn’t mean both of MVA’s 18U teams don’t have several unsigned players, though, such as…
OLIVIA BERGSMA
According to Michigansportsacademies.com Bergsma plays Right Side and wears number 28 for head coach Chip Will at MVA 18 Black. She’s also six-foot-one with a jump of nine-foot-six and a reach of seven-foot-10.
HALIE ATKINS
Despite currently having no verbal commitment to play college volleyball next season, Atkins can still claim a reach of seven-foot-seven and a jump of nine-foot-four. Standing five-foot-11 this member of the class of 2020 is presently a Middle Hitter for MVA 18 Blue.
ALLYSON MILLIGAN
While she may still be looking for her next team, because she’s five-foot-11 this Middle Hitter and member of the class of 2020 has every reason to stay hopeful. Add to that the fact Milligan, who currently is on the roster with MVA 18 Blue, has a reach of seven-foot-six and a jump of nine-foot-six and what she could possibly add to any collegiate program becomes that much greater.
REECE REDDER
A Defensive Specialist by trade, right now this five-foot-six member of the class of 2020 plays for MVA 18 Blue. As for her resume’, that includes a jump of eight-foot-six and a reach of seven-foot-two.
QUINN YONDO
At five-foot-three this Libero with MVA 18 Blue proves good things come in small packages based on her jump of eight-foot-seven and reach of six-foot-10. Yondo is also a member of the class of 2020.
MVA 18 Blue has several members of the class of 2021 on its roster that have not yet signed to play college volleyball, either. This includes Setter Keyanna Saunders and Middle Hitter Conally Cooper.
