We will now take a drive down Highway 35 to the capital of Texas to meet some V-ballers who deserve some recognition. Here are a few 2022 Prospective Student Athletes to jot down on your list. These young ladies have worked hard to be where they are at and they aren’t stopping anytime soon.
Kasen Rosenthal Kasen Rosenthal 6'0" | S Westlake | 2022 State #169 Nation TX [2022] 6-0 Setter (HS: Westlake/Club: Roots/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kasen comes in at number 37 on our State Rankings. Because of her versatility as an all around player, she has climbed up our rankings. She is able to set, hit, and defend both above the net and below it. Her setting form is legit and she holds her pose very well after the set to make sure her accuracy is consistent. She has been trained very well. Her Roots club team utilizes her in the front row also. She is able to score well on the right side as a solid attacker. She has great form while digging and has a nice platform to rebound the ball well. Kasen has the ability to play at the next level in a few years if she keeps up her training. I know that her club and high school will get her there as they are both great programs.
Samantha Wunsch Samantha Wunsch 6'1" | RS Vandergrift | 2022 State TX [2022] 6-1 Right Side (HS: Vandergrift/Club: Roots/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Samantha is ranked as the 49th best prospect in our State Rankings. She is part of the famed ten foot club as a sophomore and that is something in itself. This means that her approach touch is at or over ten feet in height. This tall left handed Right Side attacker is a prototypical opposite side player. She is a very active blocker who stays with her hitter very well in her zone. She is always watching the other side and tries to anticipate where the set will go. I really like her transition footwork as she is pretty fast for her size and is always ready to attack. She is able to hit both line and angle very well and scores at a high rate. She is definitely someone to take note of if you need a lengthy right side player. Her blocking at the net is superb as she really uses her core to make sure that her upper body seals the net well.
Lucille Vazquez [2021] 6-1 Outside/Right Side (HS: Stoney Point/Club: Austin Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Currently unranked in our Prep Dig State rankings but that should change in June when I update it. Since bursting onto the scene as a starting Freshman at Stoney Point, she has been on a tear. That year she led her team in kills as a Freshman. She works hard on and off the court and it shows in her play and personality. We are super excited to cover this young lady and she should definitely be on your radar if you are a college coach reading this. You won’t be disappointed at all by giving her a look or two. She is a long pin hitter who has tons of power. She is able to hit on both sides of the net at a high tempo. She transitioned from a middle to an outside and used beach volleyball to speed up that process. This has allowed her to develop her all around game and it has had great results. She is a great academic and athletic student athlete.
Emma Becker [2022] 5-10 Setter/Right Side (HS: Liberty Hill/Club: Austin Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted)
I am very excited about this young lady. She is also currently unranked in the first edition of the Prep Dig State Rankings, but I will be placing her somewhere in the top half as she has the skill set to compete with the best in the age group. Stay tuned to when we publish the new list in late June to see where she lands. This kid can fly and bang as an elite attacker. She loves to transition far off the net and utilize that momentum to attack hard. She has really long arms and this helps her seal the net so well as a blocker against the opponent’s outside hitters. She gets up high and regularly has her head almost over the net when she jumps. The reason she is moving up the rankings so fast has to do with her setting skills. She has really quick footwork which allows her to track down out of system passes and keep her team in the rally. I love her jump set and her soft hands. She delivers the quick set so accurately for her middle hitters. If you haven’t heard of this one, well now you have and I strongly suggest you jot her name down on your list.
