Section 48: Tecumseh
The Braves have owned this sectional for a bit, and look to be in good hands moving forward. Three sport stud and second team all-state Kaybree Oxley (’22, 5-10, MB/OH) leads Tecumseh in kills and is easily their top returner. Miss Oxley is also top three in aces (3rd), blocks (1st) and digs (2nd) for the Braves. Losing a senior setter might be too much, but definitely not enough to knock the sectional trophy out of these girls’ hands.
Section 47: Barr-Reeve
When your season finishes 34-3, you definitely had success. When only one of those losses was to a 2A school (eventual state champ Heritage Christian), you return hungry. The Vikings look to be exactly that for the fall of 2020, with returners Anna Ballengee Anna Ballengee 5'10" | DS/L Barr-Reeve | 2021 State IN (’21, Circle City 17 Purple, 5-8, DS) and Addison Ainscough (’21, 5-11, OH) crushing it at the pins, it certainly can’t hurt that the two first-team all-state performers want to make another state title run. They won it all in ’18 and lost in the state semi in ’19, do they have one last push?
Section 46: Anyone’s Guess
No, AG is not the name of a small high school in southern Indiana. But with the sheer number of teams with at least 15 wins in this sectional (all but one), it could legitimately be the most up-for-grabs sectional in 2A. Henryville, only seven years removed from a devastating tornado that leveled the school and town, won this sectional in ’19. Paoli, a sectional finalist, graduates five. This brings us to Mitchell High School, where Maddie Robertson (’22, 6-2, MB) is more known for her basketball prowess, but is easily the best attacking returner for the Bluejackets. Aside from Raven Colvin Raven Colvin 6'0" | MB Heritage Christian | 2021 State IN at state champ Heritage Christian, there isn’t another player of consequence in 2A at this size.
Section 45: North Decatur
I have had the pleasure of reffing my first high school postseason at ND a while ago, and boy, do they pump out some athletes. Just off of Interstate 74, halfway between Indianapolis and Cincinnati, is where you can find the Chargers. Yes, ND graduates their top two attackers and easily the heart and soul of the program that’s won three straight sectional titles. However, we’re keeping our eye on freshman Madelyn Bohman (’23, 5-9, MB/OH) who finished the season third in kills and first in blocks, and got all-tournament honors for section 45. Looks like another trip to Greensburg is in order.
