As shared in our initial post, we sent a list of 50 players to fifteen coaches and local volleyball minds to help build this list. You will see players who have accomplished high school careers to date. You will see some who are young but have the potential to be big-time players. Today we look at numbers 16-20 on our list.
20. Kelly Ann Greene – MH – 2021 – St. Teresa’s Academy
Greene had a breakout junior season for the Stars of St. Teresa’s last fall. “We didn’t know much about her early in the season but by the midway point, we made sure she was highlighted in our scouting reports,” shared a local coach. Greene shows her versatility by being efficient in front and behind the setter to score points. “She is very quick on the slide and one of the better middles we saw run it all of last year,” added another coach. In 2019, she had 183 kills and 61 blocks in her first varsity season. Highlights
19. Presli Firkins – L – 2021 – Platte County High School
Another player who had to wait their turn, Firkins emerged as a top player locally in 2019. In her junior season, she had 357 digs, along with 396 receptions in serve receive. A rival division coach stated, “There are balls she gets up where all I can do is shake my head. There are some good liberos in the city but she is elite in my opinion.” Firkins covers a lot of territory for the Pirates and passes with precision. It wouldn’t come by surprise if she moved up this list as the season progresses.
18. Sydney Handel Sydney Handel 5'10" | OH Lee's Summit West | 2022 State MO – OH – 2022 – Lee’s Summit West High School
“I remember watching her as a freshman and thinking she is going to be good,” a local official shared. Her sophomore season was pretty good as well. In year two, Handel had over 200 kills. We know she can score but we look forward to seeing her growth in the back-row. She is expected to play six rotations this fall. If she shows development defensively, she is easily a top 15 player in the city. Highlights
17. Madison Corf Madison Corf 5'11" | OH Liberty | 2022 State MO – OH – 2022 – Liberty High School
Like the previously mentioned Handel, Corf is another player who’s stock rises based on their back-row play in 2020. A known scorer, she had 317 kills a season ago. She has worked hard on improving her passing and we should see the results this fall. One coach stated, “She has so much power and gets kills so effortlessly, we are so happy they moved up a division and we don’t have to play them.” Highlights
16. Lacey Higgins Lacey Higgins 5'9" | S Lee's Summit West | 2022 State MO – S – 2022 – Lee’s Summit West High School
Higgins is our third setter to crack the top 25. If her sophomore season is what to expect in the future, she is going to be a rock star. A year ago she dished out 725 assists in her first year. “For a sophomore to step in and take a pretty experienced team to a 25-5 record shows the level of her play,” commented one coach. She does a good job of running the offense and putting her hitters in a position to be successful. Highlights
