Well, here are some of those athletes that meet that image and stand at six feet tall or above. While height isn’t everything in any sport, it sure does help when it comes to having an advantage over an opponent who cannot touch the same approach height or standing block jump height as those who already have a few inches added to their own personal height. In the class of 2022, there are quite a few girls who hit that six-foot spot.
Ifenna Cos-Okpalla Ifenna Cos-Okpalla 6'2" | MB Marcus | 2022 State #123 Nation TX , 6’2”
As a middle blocker, Ifenna can reach almost ten feet on her block jump and surpasses the ten-foot mark on her approach jump. She has a quick attack and excels in a fast tempo offense. Her reach enables her to go over opposing blocks with ease, also showing great court awareness in her ability to hit shots to open spots on the court. Something a bit out of the ordinary for a middle blocker – Ifenna can serve very well, using her height to get a powerful trajectory on her jump float. Currently, she is not committed to a college team, but I anticipate that a coach will pick her up as soon as possible when they see her coordination and intelligence in conjunction with her height and athleticism.
Emma Williams Emma Williams 6'4" | MB Brazoswood | 2022 State #195 Nation TX , 6’3”
Emma is another middle blocker who has a prowess for great, accurate serving. She uses her height on the service line, as well as on the net in her blocking performance. On the net, she reads setter to hitter very well and has great footwork, pressing over to shut down the opposing offense. She plays well in transition, gets off the net quickly, and takes a strong approach, reaching above the opposing block and hitting with power.
Allie Sczech Allie Sczech 6'4" | RS George Ranch | 2022 State #41 Nation TX , 6’4”
On the right side, Allie is head and shoulders above her opponents at 6’4” tall. She is committed to Baylor University (Sic ‘Em from this former Bear!) where she will join a breakout team in last year’s collegiate season. With her athleticism and height, she performs at an elite level, shutting down the opposition’s outside hitters on the block and transitioning to offense for a fast tempo play. Out of Houston, she has been a standout player for many seasons and provides high energy, power offense, and shutdown defense on the block.
Kierstyn McFall Kierstyn McFall 6'4" | MB Klein | 2022 State #144 Nation TX , 6’4”
Kierstyn is a versatile hitter as she excels at middle and right side. Off of transition, she uses her height to quickly get above the opposing blockers and pound the ball through the defense. She runs best off of a 1st tempo ball and swings well off of serve receive, as she adjusts well on out of system passes. At 6’4”, she has great footwork and coordination on her block and approach, staying disciplined and consistent on the front row.
Morgan Perkins Morgan Perkins 6'1" | MB Episcopal | 2022 State #67 Nation TX , 6’2”
At 6’2”, Morgan has a lot of potential as a middle hitter. Without fail, she can run a quick set between the 3 and 4 zones, what many call a 32 or “go” set, and pounds the ball through the opposing defense. That is her go-to play on any pass, whether off of serve receive or defense, in system or out of system. She brings great energy to the court and maintains a positive attitude, providing leadership to her team. Morgan is currently committed to Oklahoma University and will bring her talent, height, and positive attitude to a great program.
