Here are three 16th Region volleyball teams on the rise.
Bath County: After doubling its win total from the previous season in 2019, Bath County is poised to show continued improvement on the court. Under the direction of first-year head coach Jennifer Blount, Bath County showed improvement throughout the 2019 high school volleyball season. Bath County will be minus only two seniors from its 2019 team. Among the experienced players headed back to the court for former 61st District champion Bath County are Hadley Alderman (Sr. OH), Madison Jones (Jr., L), Lexis Sorrell (Sr., S), Jasmine Jones (Jr., S) and Aleighna Maxwell (Sr., S).
Fairview: Recording over 20 wins during the 2019 high school volleyball season, Fairview remained one of the 16th Region’s top teams. Fairview ended the 2019 season 21-14. The Eagles pushed Ashland Blazer prior to falling to the Kittens in the 2019 64th District Volleyball Tournament Semifinals. Fairview returns all of its players from the 2019 season. Senior outside hitter/defensive specialist Corissa Conley (105 kills, 297 digs), junior outside hitter/setter Charlee Hobbs (372 kills, 414 digs, 72 service aces), sophomore libero Kameron Fry (876 digs, 85 service aces), sophomore outside hitter/setter Shelby Marcum (337 digs, 53 service aces), sophomore outside hitter/defensive specialist Graycin Price (148 kills, 579 digs, 130 service aces), senior outside hitter/middle blocker Natalie Tackett (121 kills, 154 digs, 6 service aces) and sophomore setter/outside hitter Kiera Loving (591 assists, 126 digs, 73 service aces) combine to make Fairview a talented team.
Greenup County: After finishing the 2018 high school volleyball season 2-23-1, Greenup County compiled a 13-22 record in 2019. Greenup County finished as the 63rd District runner-up behind rival Russell and made an appearance in the 2019 16th Region Volleyball Tournament. Several experienced players are due back for Greenup County. Junior middle hitter Caroline Adkins (283 kills, 30 blocks, 48 digs, 38 service aces), senior outside hitter Kenna Griffith (208 kills, 157 digs, 4 service aces), senior setter Desarae Willis (574 assists, 147 digs, 35 service aces) and senior libero Sarah Broyles (254 digs) are each due back for 63rd District title contender Greenup County.
