Coach Maher believes this team can compete with the best when they play at the top of their game. The team finished in the top half of the majority of tournaments, including a 9th place finish at Rock ‘n Rumble and a gold bracket finish in Indianapolis at the Central Zone Invitational before their season came to a screeching halt in March.
Margo Sudzina (Notre Dame Prep). The freshman setter was thrust into the spotlight and helped the Fighting Irish return to the Division 2 State Semifinals in the fall of 2019 while running a 6-2 offense. In addition to running an up-tempo offense, Sudzina is an excellent defender and has an extremely tough serve. Her Max Preps serving stats show she played in 134 varsity matches and compiled 59 aces.
Sarah Belk (Henry Ford – Utica). Sarah saw action on the junior varsity squad for the Falcons in both the middle and outside positions. Standing 5’9″, Belk puts up a strong block in the middle and has a solid jump float serve that keeps her opponents struggling to stay in system.
Sara Robinson (Rochester). Robinson came into the club season ready to go in the middle after seeing junior varsity action for the Rochester Falcons. She is an explosive hitter with an enormous swing. Also coming in at 5’9″, Robinson brings an excellent, consistent serve and does well on serve receive.
Kaelyn Halverson (Lake Orion). Kaelyn is an aggressive player with a strong passing platform. At only 5’5″, Halverson brings a handful of shots to the outside that keeps her opponents on their toes.
Kayleigh Winiarski (Notre Dame Prep). Winiarski has filled in at every position for both Notre Dame Prep and Unified. Kayleigh’s volleyball IQ is outstanding. For club, she is part of the setting duo in a 6-2 offense and an outside hitter. While Winiarski can pound the ball from the pin, she is beginning to put up substantial numbers while working on new angles.
Katrina Robinson (Lake Orion). Standing at 5’8″, Katrina puts up a tall block on the right side of the court. With respect to her offensive game, she has a nice shot to the deep corner that many teams struggle with defensively.
Nerissa Longroy (Troy Athens). Longroy has come through for the team with big plays when needed to carry her team to victory. She has a big vertical and isn’t afraid to swing when the game is on the line.
Madison Sedmak (Lutheran North). In the fall of 2019, Madison and her Lutheran North teammates went undefeated in league play in part to her strong defense and her ability to read opposing attackers. Sedmak covers a huge area on the court defensively and has a nice deep serve that other teams struggle with on serve receive.
Rylee Karlewski (Clarkston). Karlewski is described as a student of the sport by Coach Maher. She is always pushing herself to learn more about the game and her position. Karlewski brings a strong platform on serve receive and is an accurate spot server.
Hannah Maynard (Rochester Adams). As every defensive specialist should, Maynard brings the mindset of “nothing hits the floor” when she is on the court. She is excellent at picking up tips from her opponents and is just as consistent on hard-driven balls with her rock-solid platform.
