Blocking is certainly an important skill in volleyball as oftentimes matches are decided in close contests at the net. These four players have performed extremely well in the skill last season as juniors and are poised to return to their last year in high school willing to do even more impact at the net.
Sadie Bacon Sadie Bacon 6'2" | MB Issaquah | 2021 State WA – Middle-Blocker – Issaquah
Prepdig.com’s top-ranked player in the class of 2021, Bacon excelled at the net last year, scoring 175 blocking points for Issaquah, more than all but only player in the entire state. She registered 11 or more blocking points in three matches for the Eagles last season, a key factor on her massive leap from 2018, when she blocked opponents just 60 times. At 6’2”, Bacon is tall and athletic enough to make her presence felt at the net in any occasion and the fact that she has been playing beach volleyball for quite a few years now has polished her game even further, especially in moving and improving her timing at the net.
Sydney Patterson – Middle-Blocker – Chief Sealth
Patterson has been consistently effective at the net during her time with Chief Sealth. She was the fourth-best blocker in the state among the sophomores in 2018 with 85 points and moved one step up in 2019 to be third in the juniors list with 81. At 5’11”, she’s an exceptionally fast middle-blocker and has made of the skill her bread and butter on the court as in five of her 15 matches in 2019 she scored more points blocking than hitting and had nearly identical season totals in both skills (83 kills and 81 blocks).
Kambel Fiser – Setter – West Seattle
Fiser is only non-middle-blocker to make the cut and she’s in the list for good season. In 2019, she had a career-high 75 blocking points, jumping from the 46 she had the year before. The West Seattle standout led all setters in the state in both blocking points and blocks per set (one) and registered impressive seven points at the net against Ballard. At 5’11”, Fiser is one of the tallest setters in Washington and she combines her size pretty well with her great reading at the net for the benefit of the Wildcats.
Charity Hines – Middle-Blocker – Steilacoom
A dual-sport student-athlete (she also plays basketball), Hines was one of just two juniors in the state to reach triple-digit blocking points in 2019 with 102 for Steilacoom. At 6’4”, Hines has her height to her advantage and she first showed her potential at the net in 2018, the season in which she registered impressive 18 points against White River. She’s arguably given another step forward last season, when her usage with the Sentinels increased, with a 26-point improvement. Hines also registered 88 solo blocks, the second-best mark in Washington last season.
