Grace Purichia Grace Purichia 5'7" | S Providence | 2023 State #149 Nation IN , 5-7, Providence, Union, Prep Dig #6
On paper, Grace is closer to the pack of setters on this list. Nothing could be further from the truth. She comes from a long line of high-vb-IQ folks, starting with her parents, who coach. She’s also got gym-rat siblings that can play at an amazingly high level. As for Grace, her ability to turn bad passes into terminable attacks is her specialty. Her defense and ball control is off the chart as well, as evidenced by her top-eight finish at USA 14U Beach Nationals in 2018. With her partner, Caroline Hilbrich Caroline Hilbrich 5'9" | OH Floyd Central | 2023 State IN , Grace also earned AVP American points with a fifth place finish in a women’s open tournament in 2019. In short, this kid can BALL at an extremely high level, and the competition on this list isn’t close.
Mallory Dills Mallory Dills 5'9" | S Cathedral | 2023 State IN , 5-9, Cathedral, Munciana, Prep Dig #13
A kid that’s already had her name on the AVCA Phenom list? Yes, you have our attention, Mallory. Her ability to run an offense with accurate hands and placement, not to mention her size on this list, make Miss Dills quite marketable to the next level. It also helps she’s getting, arguably, the best setting training in the state at Munciana. She ran the show at Cathedral, a perennial top ten 4A school, last year as a freshman. Now, while Cathedral reloads, we get to see Mallory’s development and what Munciana has done with her skill level.
Naija Gadis Naija Gadis 5'8" | S Brebeuf | 2023 State #196 Nation IN , 5-8, Brebeuf Preparatory, Team Indiana, Prep Dig #19
The quickest and most athletic on this list, Naija also plays for two winning programs in both Team Indiana and Brebeuf. On her athleticism alone, she’s received dozens of interested looks from multiple divisions at the next level. Her ability to “go get” any tight pass and make it hittable is a skill none of the other setters on this list has right now. With time and experience, her level of play will increase with the amount of ball she’ll be playing in the near future. Brebeuf has a long history of developing exceptional setters, and Naija is definitely part of that tradition.
Monica Jones Monica Jones 5'8" | S Roncalli | 2023 State IN , 5-8, Roncalli, Academy, Prep Dig #22
A no-nonsense, nose-to-the-grindstone gym rat is what you get out of Monica. Roncalli kids just don’t bring attention to themselves, which is why you probably haven’t heard of her—-yet. She gets the job done at the highest level, without concern for personal accolades. Every ball is in tempo, and every ball is hittable. Add Miss Jones to this list of successful, unassuming Rebels from Roncalli.
Delaney Seaman Delaney Seaman 5'8" | S Brebeuf | 2023 State IN , 5-8, Brebeuf, Prep Dig #36
I have Delaney this low for one reason; I just haven’t seen enough of her play to move her around on this list, in either direction. What I do know is that Miss Seaman comes from a long bloodline of setters, including a recent graduate of Ball State and a current 5-1 setter at Miami of Ohio. She has consistent placement, works hard, and knows how to play at the next level. Stay tuned on this update; I just gave myself and excuse to drive up to the north side of Indy to watch this young lady run an offense.
