Here are three 11th Region volleyball teams on the rise.
Lexington Christian Academy: Showing much improvement in 2019, Lexington Christian Academy posted a 12-17 record. The Eagles finished the 2018 high school volleyball season 8-24. In a turnaround, LCA pushed rival Lexington Catholic prior to falling in the opening round of the 2019 43rd District Volleyball Tournament. Several experienced players from LCA were lost to graduation. However, junior outside hitters/opposite hitters Tucker Patterson (96 kills, 29 digs) and Sophia Brooks (75 kills, 165 digs, 30 service aces), along with sophomore middle blocker/opposite hitter Cordia Hood (65 kills, 23 digs), return for the Eagles.
Sayre: Continuing to show improvement, Sayre compiled a 21-15 record in the 2019 high school volleyball season. Previously, Sayre had posted an 18-9 record in 2018. The Spartans pushed rival Scott County before falling in the opening round of the 2019 42nd District Volleyball Tournament Semifinals. Sayre returns all of its players from 2019, including Maggie Pulliam (So., S, 333 assists, 142 digs, 65 service aces), Kennedy Beatty (Jr., DS/S, 390 digs, 87 assists, 80 service aces), Elsa Rodgerson (Jr., S, 338 assists, 239 kills, 188 digs, 52 service aces), Katherine Croce (So., OH, 168 kills, 165 digs, 91 service aces), Maya Borland (Jr., MH, 390 digs, 87 assists, 80 service aces), Natalie Desousa (Sr., OH, 181 digs, 74 kills, 51 service aces) and Allison Yandell (Jr., MH, 87 kills, 20 digs).
Western Hills: Excelling during the 2019 high school volleyball season, Western Hills finished as the 42nd District runner-up and made an appearance in the 11th Region Volleyball Tournament. The Wolverines, who put together a nine-match winning streak, finished runner-up to upstart Great Crossing in the 42nd District Volleyball Tournament. Western Hills, which compiled a 24-13 record in 2019, returns seniors Alexa Barker, Nicole Shouse and Lexi Taylor, along with juniors Allie Dick and Fernanda Fuentes.
