Here are three 12th Region volleyball teams on the rise.
Danville: Performing well throughout 2019, Danville finished as the 45th District runner-up and made an appearance in the 12th Region Volleyball Tournament. Doubling its win total from the previous campaign, Danville compiled an 18-12 record in 2019. The Admirals showed much improvement after ending the 2018 high school volleyball season 9-15. Danville returns most of its players from the 2019 season, including Briana Johnson (Sr., MB, 171 kills, 64 blocks), Faith Breitenbach (Sr., S, 120 kills, 370 assists, 199 digs, 66 service aces), Destiny Byrd (Sr., MB, 113 kills, 32 blocks, 58 digs, 35 service aces), Keeley McKnight (Sr., S, 121 kills, 49 blocks, 403 assists, 203 digs, 50 service aces), Delaney Dennis (Sr., OH, 253 kills, 337 digs, 55 service aces) and Isabella Joseph (Jr., DS, 243 digs, 81 service aces).
McCreary Central: Continuing to show improvement during the 2019 high school volleyball season, McCreary Central finished 19-12. The Raiders were 16-13 in 2018. Starting strong in 2019, McCreary Central opened the season on an eight-match winning streak. Alexa Bruce (403 assists, 46 kills, 95 digs, 52 service aces), Elizabeth Anderson (171 kills, 141 digs, 32 assists, 47 service aces), Jayden Privett (117 digs, 47 kills, 55 service aces), Alexandria Hill (36 kills, 27 digs, 41 service aces) and Tiffany Goodin (165 digs, 24 service aces) are among the seniors returning for the Raiders. McCreary Central’s 2019 season ended following a loss in the 48th District Volleyball Tournament Semifinals.
Mercer County: The Titans finished as the 46th District runner-up and reached the 12th Region Volleyball Tournament Semifinals during the 2019 season, ended the successful campaign 18-8. Much-improved Mercer County excelled on the court after compiling a 7-19 record in 2018. Several key players for Mercer County were lost to graduation as members of the Class of 2020 earlier in the year. However, Mercer County returns junior setter Haven Six (591 assists, 50 kills, 38 service aces, 32 digs) and sophomore middle hitter Jai Piazza (86 kills, 20 blocks), each of whom helped to lead the Titans throughout the 2019 high school volleyball season.
