Here are three 8th Region volleyball teams on the rise.
Anderson County: Finishing near the .500 mark, Anderson County ended the 2019 high school volleyball season 17-18. The Bearcats fared better after compiling a 15-17 record in 2018. Anderson County dropped a close match to rival Shelby County in the 2019 30th District Volleyball Tournament Semifinals. However, Anderson County will be looking to advance to the 2020 8th Region Volleyball Tournament. A talent-heavy senior class for Anderson County features Kaylie Clark, Sierra Kostenbader, Jennifer Ly, Jina Sparrow and Morgan Wells. In addition, junior Lauren Emmons is poised to return to the floor for the Bearcats.
Henry County: Continuing to show improvement, Henry County compiled a 16-11 record and reached the 8th Region Volleyball Tournament Semifinals in 2019. Henry County upped its record after finishing the 2018 high school volleyball season 13-10. In 2019, Henry County captured the 31st District championship, shutting out Eminence 3-0 in a title match. The top returning players for Henry County are Sydney Raymer (Sr., MH), Elliot Raymer (Jr., MH), Grace Adams (Jr., S) and Mia Hall (DS. Sr.)
Williamstown: Much-improved Williamstown ended the 2019 high school volleyball season 23-12 after compiling a 17-13 record during the previous campaign. The Demons finished as the 32nd District runner-up and made an appearance in the 8th Region Volleyball Tournament in 2019. Williamstown’s 2019 season ended with a loss to Henry County in the opening round of the 8th Region Volleyball Tournament. Brooklyn Perkins (Sr., OH), Kailey Varner (Jr., DS), Tori Fryman (Jr., S/MH) and Avery Hornbeck (So., DS) are all headed back for the Demons.
