The Class of 2022 has developed a vast amount of expertise and have a great deal of talent as they become “upperclassmen”. Let’s take a look at 5 of the top available players in Wisconsin’s Class of 2022.
- Brianna Cantrell Brianna Cantrell OH Appleton North | 2022 State #104 Nation WI – 5’11 – Pin Hitter – Appleton North
Cantrell is a lively athlete who is dangerous at the net. In 2020 she made the FC Elite 18 Elite team which had her playing up 2 age groups and with teammates already committed to Winona, K-State, Wisconsin, UW-Green Bay, Marquette, and Illinois. That experience alone is invaluable. Her club team also won the Mizuno Showcase 18’s division right before the shutdown. Cantrell has a wide range of shots that gave her 331 kills in 2019 for the Lightning. She has also developed into a solid defender. Cantrell is a player who is rapidly rising in the ranks and on college coaches’ wishlists.
2. Maleah Howe Maleah Howe OH Oconomowoc | 2022 State #190 Nation WI – 5’9 – Outside Hitter – Oconomowoc
Howe is an excellent athlete who has an amazing arsenal of shots and a heavy swing. She uses finesse to hit around the block of her opponents, and she has collected over 600 kills in her 1st two seasons at Oconomowoc, as well as 2 state runner-up finishes. Howe is a player who is a true all-around player which is obvious when you see her play sand doubles. She can cut the angles and pound the line making blockers feel nonexistent. The energy Howe gives to the ball is met flawlessly with her swift approach to attack. She is a talented athlete who can defend with the best of them or terminate from either pin.
- Morgan Daugherty Morgan Daugherty 6'2" | MB Brookfield Central | 2022 State #200 Nation WI – 6’2 – Middle Blocker – Brookfield Central
Daugherty is an incredible 6’2 middle blocker who has demonstrated she isn’t just a big block. She is hit a solid .294 for Brookfield Central, tallying 186 kills in 2019. Daugherty can run an exceptionally quick route in front or behind her setter. When she is not terminating or holding the opposing blockers, she is shutting down opposing hitters. Daugherty collected 74 blocks, and she is a daunting presence at the net. She will certainly find even more success as she enters her junior season.
4. Adriana Studer Adriana Studer DS/L Lake Country Lutheran | 2022 State #187 Nation WI – 5’8 – Libero – Lake Country Lutheran
Studer is such an interesting player to watch on the court because her efficiency, tenacity, focus, and disciplined form are so remarkable. She is reliably covering the majority of the court and also a great supportive teammate. In Studer’s 1st two high school seasons, she provided 533 digs for Lake Country Lutheran, helping them reach more than 70 wins. She finished her sophomore serving 95% in play and recorded 94 aces, making her one of the most reliable and lethal from the service line. Studer is a “must watch” player who will definitely go on to do incredible things at the next level.
5. Madison Tolzman Madison Tolzman 5'8" | OH Arrowhead | 2022 State WI – 5’8 – Pin Hitter – Arrowhead
Tolzman is a gifted young player who gives 100% to her team. She is proficient at assisting her team demolish out of system balls and continually cleans up overpasses that leave her opponents feeling deflated. Tolzman can elevate and is a fearsome attacker from either pin. In addition to her quick arm swing, she is also an experienced passer. Tolzman’s ball control lets her team stay in system while she is ready to be used as an attack option in all six rotations.
