Continue ReadingWe bring our attention back to the 2021 class as we have a few players that we have not written about yet. We are going to profile three new players you may not have heard of. We had some serious movement with some players sliding up the charts from our initial publication of the State Rankings in April. Here are just a few of the Stock Risers in the 2021 class that stood out and moved up for their senior year.
Alana Dawson Alana Dawson 5'11" | RS Clear Springs | 2021 State TX [2021] 5-11 Right Side (HS: Clear Springs/Club: Houston Stellar/ Verbal: Emory)
Alana is ranked as the 88th best player in the 2021 class according to our State Rankings. She plays for Clear Springs HS in southeast Houston. Alana has raw natural power behind her solid frame that is very difficult to stop. She has a fantastic ability to get off of the ground and has great hang time to help her score at will. A lot of players have a difficult time attacking on the right side because they have to time it perfectly for the ball to cross over to their right shoulder. This is why a lot of left-handed players are known to hit on the right side. But, Alana makes it look so easy as she is a right-handed player who relishes the right side. She is able to have the correct timing and spacing in order to give her both options of line and angle on the right pin. Miss Dawson brings the hammer when she sees an opening and it is a kill almost anytime the opponent gives her that seam. We are excited to watch her senior season and can’t wait to see her play at Emory where she has committed to play college ball.
Abigail Halstead Abigail Halstead 5'7" | S Brandeis | 2021 State TX [2021] 5-7 Setter (HS: Brandeis/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Abigail has been ranked as the 93rd top prospect in the State of Texas according to our State Rankings. She is a picture perfect setter who is always composed on the court. Miss Halstead has been coached extremely well in her well-known volleyball club Alamo out of the San Antonio area. You can tell by the way she moves on the court and how her posture is always correct when setting her teammates. She also plays defense for her club team and is stellar in right back. Her setting location is always on point for both quick sets and high tempo pin sets. My favorite aspect is when she is running forward and decides to set against flow and push the ball to the right side hitter for a one on one attack. The ball comes off of her hands so smoothly no matter which set she is pushing out to her hitters. Coaches should give this young lady a look as she can definitely play at the next level.
Harper McDonald Harper McDonald 6'0" | OH Bishop Lynch | 2021 State TX [2021] 6-0 Outside (HS: Bishop Lynch/Club: Dallas Skyline/Verbal: Rhode Island)
Harper has earned the honor of being ranked as the 99th best volleyball player in the state of Texas according to our Prep Dig rankings. Miss McDonald plays at a well known prominent volleyball program who always has a deep run in the TAPPS state tourney each year, Bishop Lynch. She is a very versatile pin hitter out of the north Texas area who has recently committed to the University of Rhode Island. Harper is a fantastic attacker who can hit out of both pins with tons of power. She torques her upper body extremely well to unload on the ball to her opponents. She is able to hit line and angle around blockers and score at a high clip. I love how versatile she is in her ability to hit multiple tempos out of the pins. Her club team runs her in high tempo and also quick tempo sets out of the left and right, which keeps their opponents off-balance. She is a true point scorer as she mixes up her shot selection very well with some off-speed shots to score for her team. We are excited to see what she does in her senior season getting ready to play in college next year.
