These players showed their natural talent with both big swings and smart plays, in addition to their leadership potential as the exceptional senior on the court. Although this season will have its own unique challenges, these players are sure to impress and carry their team to many successes.
Sydney Ramos – 5’7” – OH – Hudson High School
Sydney Ramos is an all-around great player and a true asset to the Hudson High team. As the captain this year she has already shown her leadership potential during the first game of the season. Whatever the problem was on the court, she was there to save the out of the system play, direct the player that was out of rotation, or score several aces with her incredibly accurate jump-float serve to tie up the game. Although she is only five foot seven, she can compete at the net with the tallest of middle blockers due to both her jump height and smart plays. Defenders struggle to return her powerful swings and carefully placed tips. Blockers rarely get a touch, and when they do it is because she has swung into them with the intent on using it to her advantage as the ball flies out of bounds.
Amiya Oliver – 5’7” – MH, MB – Wesley Chapel High School
Amiya Oliver is an outstanding player that dominates the net with her big swings, smart tips, and towering blocks. Despite her height, she is extremely competitive at the net with even the tallest middle hitters. Her timing and high-flyer jump allow her to shut down powerful hitters. Amiya is a finely tuned middle hitter that can run any play across the net, but she shines with quick hits in the middle or right side. From these angles she is able to place the ball on the other side with an almost frustrating accuracy, making the opposite defenders scramble. As she gets one kill after another, she sets the tone of the game and creates an infectious energy that is easily seen affecting all her teammates on and off the court. There are players that get kills and then there are leaders that use that momentum and energy to inspire and carry the team.
Brette Heymann – 5’8” – OH, DS – Sunlake High School
Brette Heymann is an integral part of Sunlake’s exceptional team, playing all the way around the court as not only a fast defensive specialist but also a force to be reckoned with as a pin hitter. With a beach volleyball background, her technique and follow-through give her outside swing a powerful top-spin making retrieval of the ball nearly impossible to most defenders. Her powerful top-spin jump-serve is another nod to her beach volleyball training and another way she makes her opponents dig a little deeper.
