First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
We start with District 1A Caribou Trail, which has five high schools set to compete, and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Lauren Kert – Outside Hitter – Junior – Cashmere
Cashmere won only one of their eight district matches last season, but outside hitter Lauren Kert still managed to do enough to be a bright spot for the Bulldogs in 2019. The 5’8” outside hitter, who left a great impression in her first high school season in 2018, when she earned All-League second-team honors, came back even stronger last year, leading the team’s offense and playing a pivotal role on defense too. Kert has great athleticism and has shown signs she can polish her game even more going forward.
Trinity Fjellman – Middle-Blocker – Junior – Omak
Trinity Fjelmman was one of the positive surprises coming out of Omak’s roster which won four of their eight district matches in 2019. Despite her 5’5” frame, the middle-blocker caused some positive impact in the Pioneers’ game with her hard work and fighting spirit. Fjellman is also skilled enough to be used as a defensive specialist, which could be more of a path for her going forward considering her height while also adding to her value as a versatile player.
Elle Spears – Setter – Junior – Cashmere
Elle Spears provided great value to Cashmere as an all-around setter. The prospect did very well when distributing the game to her teammates and showed the audacity and the capacity to frequently set to the most distant hitter, something that’s not common to players of her age. At 5’9”, she can also play as an opposite and provide some firepower with sharp angle hits while still being a more than capable defender.
