First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
Now we analyze the fifth district, 1A Northeast, which has seven high schools set to compete, and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Paige Thompson – Outside Hitter – Senior – Deer Park
Paige Thompson had a memorable debut for Deer Park back in 2018 and it has only gotten better since then. The 5’10” prospect, who started as a middle-blocker, but later moved to her preferred outside hitter position, has quickly become the Stags’ focal point on offense, registering twice as many kills as the entire team combined in 2019. Her reliability and solid play at the net made of her an All-League second-team selection last season.
Aliviah Stime – Setter – Senior – Riverside
Riverside had a decent campaign in 2019, winning half of their 12 matches in the district and Aliviah Stime had a key role in it. The setter coordinated the team’s offense efficiently and did a good job in leading the Lady Rams on the court too. Her strong serving game was also at a full display and the interesting combo brought by a setter who can also score and also play as an opposite has taken her to the All-League second team.
Amblessed Okemgbo – Middle-Blocker – Junior – Medical Lake
It’s not easy to take positives from teams with a 1-11 win record as was the case with Medical Lake in 2019, but Amblessed Okemgbo’s performances certainly brought a little smile to the Cardinals’ faces. The 5’8”middle-blocker was a key player in their only victory in the season, a 3-1 triumph against Newport, and made her presence felt at the net during the entire campaign, earning a spot on the All-League second team.
