First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
Now we analyze the fifth district, 1A Northeast, which has seven high schools set to compete, and their best three players are:
Ashley Boswell – Outside Hitter – Junior – Freeman
Ashley Boswell’s versatility has arguably been the most important element of her game with Freeman. Brought in as a middle-blocker, the 6’1” prospect smoothly transitioned to the outside hitter position combining a well-known strong game at the net with some interesting backcourt skills, which made of her an ideal fit for the position. Last year, when the Scotties went to win ten of their 12 division matches and finish fourth at the State Championship, Boswell received an All-State team honorable mention and was an All-League first-team selection.
Jamie Kennedy – Middle-Blocker – Senior – Lakeside
Jamie Kennedy will be one of the few key returning players from a senior-heavy Lakeside team that finished third in the division in 2019. The six-foot middle-blocker formed a strong pairing with senior Mia Pakootas last season and will arguably become an even more central piece for the Eagles moving forward. Fresh from a season in which she received an All-State team honorable mention and was part of the All-League first team, she seems ready for more.
Jordyn Goldsmith – Opposite – Senior – Freeman
Jordyn Goldsmith has just the perfect prototype to play opposite at the college and professional levels in the future. Standing at 6’2” and hammering balls with her left hand, the Freeman prospect looks a lot like some of the best of her position. Her high school game left little margin for doubts as well as she’s bee pure power for the Scotties at the right side of the net, earning an All-State team honorable mention and an All-League first-team pick in 2019.
