First we broke the players down by division and then we switched gears to analyze who are expected to be the most outstanding athletes in the top teams of each of those divisions.
For the next several weeks, we’ll dive even deeper, taking a closer look at each of the 46 district leagues in the state of Washington and pointing out the players we believe will be worth your attention in the near future.
It’s time to hit District 1B Northwest, where ten high schools are set to compete, and some of their players with the greatest upside are:
Ione Fox – Setter – Senior – Shoreline Christian
Ione Fox has been a steady and reassuring presence on Shoreline Christian’s lineup in each of her three seasons of high school volleyball and she should grow to an even larger role next year. The 5’6” setter, who also plays golf and basketball, has been instrumental to the Chargers’ success, most notably last season, when they won all four of their district matches and competed at the State Championship. Her great play took her to the All-State team as an honorable mention.
Karis Jones – Outside Hitter/Setter – Junior – Grace Academy
Karis Jones has put all her talent and versatility to good use with Grace Academy last season. Originally a setter, the 5’10” prospect moved to the outside hitter position so setter Abby Boas and her could play together and the result was outstanding with the Eagles competing at the State Championship for the first time after 13 attempts. With her size and skill, Jones is hard to stop at the net and her move was rewarded with an All-State team honorable mention.
Hannah Wu – Setter – Freshman – Providence Classical Christian
Hannah Wu was part of Providence Classical Christian’s roster that finished eighth at last year’s State Championship, the school’s best result so far. Even though her participation in the Highlanders’ campaign was limited, there’s certainly a lot of upside to a 5’5” eight-grader setter who’s able to bring something to the best team in the district as she did in 2019.
