Continue ReadingWe wanted to highlight the season of Weatherford High School. They had a fantastic season. The Lady Roos had a perfect district record of 14-0 and finished the season overall at 23-3. They lost a tough four setter to Eaton High in the Regional Quarters (21-25-17-25, 25-21, 18-25). However they did beat Keller and then outlasted a tough Midland team in five sets to advance to the third round. They still have some young talent to be back in the saddle again next season. We would like to congratulate them on a great season and highlight just a few of their talented players we have on our state rankings. We at Prep Dig want to continue to highlight great accomplishments and give kudos to those who deserve it after all of the hard work they put in to their craft. Say congrats to these three ladies on what they just accomplished:
Keegan O’Connor Keegan O’Connor 5'2" | DS/L Weatherford | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-3 Libero (HS: Weatherford/Club: Muscle /Verbal: Uncommitted)
Keegan O’Connor Keegan O’Connor 5'2" | DS/L Weatherford | 2022 State TX is ranked as the 80th best high school prospect in the 2022 class in the State of Texas. We have written a few articles on Keegan. The most recent one said this, “Miss O’Connor is a very quick and athletic libero who was born to play the position. Don’t let her size fool you. She has the fight of a giant inside of her. Originally from the Chicago area, Keegan moved to Texas and has had to fight to earn her respect in the sport of volleyball. And boy has she earned it. She is beginning to receive high praise from many sports outlets and it is due. I love her work ethic and her desire to excel in her position on the court. She has a phenomenal serve that floats so well and stifles opponents. What sets her apart from other liberos is her touch on the ball. She has an uncanny ability to absorb hard driven contact from any angle and it comes off of her platform very well to the setter. Her emergency technique digs are a sight to see and she will always keep her team in the fight with her on the back row. She has ball control with both her platform and her hands to receive the ball and it is always at target once she contacts. I think coaches should keep an eye on this young lady as she continues to progress. She is able to play at the next level if someone gives her the chance. This kid continues to amaze everyone. She has recently surpassed the 1000 dig mark in a very short period of time. She has also been named Defensive MVP last year for her district and also named to the AVCA phenom watch list. She is one reason why her Lady Roo volleyball team has been undefeated in district so far at 6-0. Overall they are 11-2 on the young season and Keegan is a big reason why. We are expecting some great things from them in the playoffs as well. With Keegan at the helm of their defense they are poised for a good run.” We go ahead and add another accolade to this amazingly hard working libero. Keegan has just been named District 3-6A Defensive Player of the Year. She has come so far to prove herself in two short years and continues to amaze everyone who watches her. We are excited for her and can’t wait to see how much more she improves.
Kate Hansen Kate Hansen 6'3" | MB Weatherford | 2023 State #67 Nation TX [2023] 6-2 Middle (HS: Weatherford/Club: TAV/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miss Hansen comes in as the 19th ranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In a recent article we wrote, “She has been a starter on her varsity high school program since bursting onto the scene last year. She is a very lengthy and strong middle in the North Texas area as well. She was with Skyline but has made the switch to TAV for this coming season. Kate is able to run crossing patterns very well already and is a huge target for her setters. She hits very high and is able to score in both corners well. She is also able to play on both pins and in the back row as well. I love her offensive weapons that she shows on all tempos across the net. She is a huge block no matter where you use her on the front row. This ability to showcase her all-around play is one of the primary reasons that she is ranked so high on our list. If she improves like I think she will, she is on the course to move up the rankings over the next couple of years.” We are proud to announce that Kate has just earned the District 3-6A Co-Offensive Player of the Year. She has accomplished this as only a sophomore. Imagine what she will do in the next two years after training and playing with some of the best players in the nation on her TAV club team. We can’t wait to see what she does next. Please help us congratulate her on a great honor.
Abbie Lane [2021] 6-0 Outside (HS: Weatherford/Club: TAV/Verbal: Holy Cross)
Abbie is currently unranked in the 2021 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings, but that will change once I update the rankings early next month. We just wrote this last week on Abbie, “The Lady Roo career kills record is now broken thanks to Abbie. She sits at 981 career kills and still has matches to play. It is a fantastic feat for her to accomplish during her senior season. She is a super powerful attacker who has the ability to score from all areas of the court. She hits everything with authority and has impeccable timing from quick and from high tempo sets. There is not an area that she can’t hit from. She is signed with Holy Cross and they are getting an immediate impact player. She has the ability to be a six rotation outside or hit out of the middle. A player like this that can play multiple positions well is something to be treasured.” Just a week after this was written, Abbie earned a great honor from her district. She was named as district 3-6A Most Valuable Player. She has had an amazing senior year and she will do great things for them next season.
