This year Lyman faced off against Lake Nona High School, an impressive team, for the state title. The match went five sets with a 3 to 2 victory for Lyman. A big part of that victory, and an overall incredible season, 29-1, can be accredited to a few standout players.
Valeria Rosado Valeria Rosado 6'0" | OH Lyman | 2021 State FL – 6’1” – OH – Class of 2021
Valeria Rosado Valeria Rosado 6'0" | OH Lyman | 2021 State FL was voted Player of the Match during the state championship game, but this is not a surprise based on her performance throughout the season. She has had an impressive career at Lyman High; over the last two years, Valeria has played in 168 sets and scored 1,067 kills, 126 aces, 52 total blocks, and has completed 494 digs. The amount of sets Valeria was given in this season alone, a staggering 1,233, speaks to the trust that her teammates have in her to score the point. Her height and athleticism make her approach and speed look effortless before she contacts the ball with power and precision. Valeria is committed to Stephen F. Austin University.
Alanys Viera Alanys Viera 5'7" | S Lyman | 2021 State FL – 5’7” – S – Class of 2021
Alanys Viera Alanys Viera 5'7" | S Lyman | 2021 State FL is an incredible setter for Lyman’s Varsity team. Behind every great team and every superstar hitter is an awesome setter, and that is exactly where Alanys comes in. In this 2020 season alone, she has played in 88 sets with 880 assists. She also has scored nearly 80 kills with 17 solo blocks and almost 350 digs, making her not only a great setter but also a well-rounded player on the court. Alanys is not only able to make her hitters look good as a setter, but she also can make plays at the net herself and dominates the right-back defensively.
Gabriel Pagan – 5’6” – L, DS – Class of 2022
Gabriel Pagan is the libero for Lyman’s Varsity team and has played in 88 sets this year, her first year on varsity. She has made an impressive 583 digs, 527 serve receptions, 65 assists, and 30 aces. Gabriel definitely runs the back-row as the libero and is constantly on her toes, moving on the court. If she isn’t contacting the ball, she is covering the player that does. Her technique and form are almost as impressive as her ability to cover so much of the court.
