Continue ReadingThe Eagles Fall Showcase, held October 17, 2020 in Fredericksburg, provided almost 200 young women the opportunity to show their talents to college coaches and evaluators for the opportunity to continue their playing careers at the next level. It was a diverse group of players from throughout the commonwealth and East Coast and even a player from Colorado. Here are some prospects that may be contributors but are currently under the radar.
Anderson “Andi” Davis is an athletic Outside Hitter for XZone Volleyball Club and Prince George High School. She’s a 5’8 swing player that has grown immensely throughout her brief playing career. She has good ball control and solid movement on serve receive. She has quick reflexes and can handle fast paced attacks with control. She hits with range and sees the court well but needs to refine her arm swing to generate more power to score on out of system balls more regularly against higher level competition. She has a good jump float and can hit it from a variety of end line locations and place it well on the court. She’s very high energy and lift her teammates. She is an extremely high character kid who is strong academically and also a great teammate. She could grow into a mid-level D2 level prospect.
Summer Simmons is a 5’6 Outside Hitter from Westfield High School in Chantilly, Virginia and played travel for Virginia Volleyball Academy last season. Despite her modest size, Summer can be an efficient attacker with her court vision and ability to attack the block. She has a good arm and good range. She transitions well and had a solid platform on serve receive. She’s a good defender in middle back and has quick reactions. She has a very good jump float that she places well and is aggressive. She can grow into a good D3 prospect and maybe a Defensive Specialist at D2 or NAIA level.
Sophia Wilson is a 5’9 Outside Hitter for Courtland High School. She has also played club for CORE and Fredericksburg Juniors Volleyball Club. She has a strong arm and can hit with good range. She can add power with better torque and more effective approach tempo. She is a solid defensive specialist with very good footwork and platform awareness. She moves efficiently to give herself good platform angles on hard float serves. She has a very solid jump float serve that is hard and flat with good movement. Her defense is good and reads well. She can play higher levels as a Defensive Specialist but is a capable blocker at 5’9 with a good vertical. She’s a 6 rotation Division 3 player and could be high end Division 2 defensively.
Other players who participated included Katie Funk from Horizon Edge Volleyball Club. She’s a 5’2 Libero from Central High School. Amy Glowatch is an Outside Hitter from a strong Fluvanna team. Hannah Rodgers and Alexis Edmonds are Right Side players for CORE Volleyball Club in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
