Continue ReadingIn a previous post, I combined the ’21s from both NIVA and Dunes, who draw most of their players from the northern Indiana area, obviously. After further review of the ’22s, NIVA deserved their own post, since we’re talking about 32 players split over five teams. Some are full travel, some are on a limited travel schedule, but all of them are interested in playing at the next level.
18 X
The top team listed on NIVA’s website has an amalgam of players and positions across multiple graduating classes. The three juniors listed here are Abby Portolese, Taylor Hostetler and Sanae Jackson. Abby is a tall (5-8) and lengthy DS that has a knack of touching every ball even remotely close to her. Pursuit is something she excels at on the court. Taylor is a six-rotation outside with all of the shots. Sanae is a rock-solid libero at the next level that can play multiple positions in the back row.
17 BB4
The “BB4” name means Better Bring Four, as in blockers, since there are so many attackers from the class of ’22 that can make an immediate impact at the next level. Let’s start with my favorite pin hitter on this roster, Sophia Trout. This lefty hammer can play from both pins and receive serve if needed. She’s fully capable of playing all the way around and has every shot in the book, in both the front and back rows. Nora Hosinski can play multiple spots in the front row, as her size helps her in either the middle or the right side for small-college consideration. Emma Hickey Emma Hickey 5'7" | DS/L Penn | 2022 State IN is listed as an outside, and can play all six rotations. The larger schools might see her as a DS, and her ball control is more than capable of success at the next level. Abby Weaver is a high-rising hammer of an outside that should occupy the OH1 position for the remainder of her club career. Janet Moala’s heavy ball and fast feet can produce kills from both in front of and behind the setter with ease. Defensive dandies Emily Eggleston and Morgan Krop can play multiple positions in the back row and can receive serve with the best of them.
17 Breakers
Once again, we have a “2s” team that certainly won’t act like it during their schedule. Led by pin attackers Bailei Mayo, Olivia Bieganski and Emma Brothers, all three can attack and defend at the next level. Bailei has an all-conference nod from this past fall. Abigail Wileman is a lock for the M1 here, while Ella Norwood brings her six-foot-plus frame and strength to this roster, and will probably be an M2 at the next level. Megan Kroll will run a 5-1 to all of these potent attackers, and locates the ball well. The defenders feeding Megan the ball include Sydney Hanna and Brooke Rohr. Both will battle for, and see time as, the libero for this squad.
17 Storm
As we move to a more limited travel schedule, there is no shortage of small college heroines that are available for the fall of 2022. Kailee Beachy should run a 5-1 with this group, and is consistent with both her set location and her defense. Middles for the Storm are Renna Reschly, Maura Meyers and Reilly Schalliol. Both Maura and Reilly can double as a possible right side in a pinch, making them much more useful at the next level. Possibly joining those two on the pins are Tatum Montague, who could possibly develop into a six-rotation outside in the future for a smaller school, and Avery Sharp, a right side in every sense of the term. A pair of DS’s show promise; Kate McGuire and Olivia Knepper can both wear the special jersey, and Miss McGuire has already done so for Fairfield High School.
17 Fury
A trio of Goshen High School players dot this roster. Madeline Garber should run a 5-1 for this group. Brooklynn Collins can be either a six-rotation outside or a three-rotation defensive specialist, depending on what the Fury need this spring. Chloe Collins is a full-time DS, and will compete with Kyra Alexander from Mishawaka for the special jersey. Kamryn Smith, listed as a right side, and Anna Small, a hybrid of an outside that can play middle, round out the juniors available on this roster.
