Continue ReadingWe are proud of our second update to the 2021 Class. We have just witnessed some amazing accomplishments throughout this unpredictable year we have just had. Texas was fortunate to have almost a full high school season and is now finishing up this week with the State Playoffs. Even in the tough year that we had, we witnessed some great training and play from this senior class. We continued to be amazed at the resiliency of these amazing players and all that they had to deal with this season. We will be profiling players who were previously ranked in the state, but through great play, they made some serious moves up the rankings. Without further ado, here are a few players who moved up:
Lauren Briseno Lauren Briseno 5'6" | DS/L Cornerstone Christian | 2021 State TX [2021] 5-6 Libero (HS: Cornerstone Christian/Club: Alamo/Signed: Baylor)
Lauren was originally listed as the 15th ranked prospect in her 2021 class according to our State Rankings but we have just moved her up to the 10th best prospect and the 2nd best libero in the state in her grad class. In our article we wrote on her in the spring we said, “Her main weapon is her consistent serve receive. She passes nails for her great Alamo club program. The way she holds her form after contact is amazing but what truly stands out to me is her upper body posture and controlled balance with her base (footwork). Her shoulders stay forward from before the serve until after contact. This is a big reason that she will help her Baylor volleyball team stay one of the best in the country for years to come. Her touch on the ball defensively has to be commended. Hard driven balls just seem to rebound so naturally off of her soft platform. You see her body control in the way she serves, the way she moves on the court before the attack, and of course, on contact of the ball. All young players should study the way she moves. Very excited to cover her for the next few years.” She just completed her senior season at Cornerstone Christian and had another phenomenal year for them. She was able to sign her official letter of intent to play at Baylor. This young lady will be a great asset to Baylor once she steps foot on campus. Lauren was fortunate enough to verbally commit to Baylor before her sophomore year in high school. Since then she has been on a tear passing and digging her way to leading her old school Reagan to greatness and then transferring to Cornerstone and leading them to greatness also. We are proud to have her on our rankings and can’t wait to see what she does next on the court.
Annie Antar Annie Antar 5'11" | S Klein | 2021 State TX [2021] 5-11 Setter/Right Side (HS: Klein/Club: Houston Juniors/Signed: North Florida)
We would like to announce that Miss Antar has made the biggest move up the rankings of everyone in the 2021 class. Annie moved from the 50th top prospect to the 22nd ranked overall prospect and 2nd best setter/hitter in the 2021 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In a previous article we stated,“Annie has had a very great school campaign over her past three years. This past year her Klein Bearkats were led by Annie Antar Annie Antar 5'11" | S Klein | 2021 State TX ’s 560 kills and 620 assists going into the playoffs. She earned the honor of Offensive player of the district last season. She is looking to do even more damage in her senior season. She is a valuable asset with her size and will do great things for the North Florida program in a few years as she is able to play all the way around and is a viable threat to score when attacking. She is a solid six-rotation player and has a cannon for an arm on the front row. Annie has done something amazing that needs to be congratulated. She surpassed 1500 assists, has 779 career digs and also became the All-Time Kill leader at Klein. We are very proud of her and her accomplishments.” Annie is one of the biggest reasons why Klein is undefeated and on their way to play for the UIL 6A State Championship this coming weekend in Garland. She fills up the stat books for the Bearkats and we cannot wait to see her in action in the state championship match. North Florida is getting an immediate impact player who can do it all for their program. Please help us congratulate her on her huge movement in our State Rankings list.
Bryshanna Brown Bryshanna Brown 5'8" | DS/L O'Connor | 2021 State TX [2021] 5-8 Libero (HS: O’Connor/Club: SA Juniors/Signed: Houston)
Bryshanna has made some serious moves during her senior season. She went from unranked to the 57th best prospect to now ranked as the 32nd best overall prospect in the state according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She made the move to be a libero and hasn’t looked back at all. In a previous article we highlighted her and said, “She is a very athletic and versatile player who stars in both the front row and the back row. Her back row play is infectious as she has no regard for her body and flies around to make sure that her team has a chance to win each rally. Always moving and reading her opponent is one thing that truly stands out when I watch her play. Because I love to teach defense, I smile every time I watch Bree collapse her body on a hard driven attack. She has been taught very well. She has such a great soft touch on the ball in the back row and it is very refreshing to watch her swing on an out of system ball from behind the attack line. She is verbally committed to the University of Houston and will do great things for the Cougars.” We watched very closely this year as we were able to catch a few of her high school matches during her incredible senior season. Words on the page about her play do not even do her justice. She was born to play the game of volleyball. Her court vision is unmatched and she has an uncanny ability to read the offense before they contact the ball. This helps her always be able to be in a good position to play the ball, which is why she always touches everything near her zone. She plays the libero position so effortlessly and we couldn’t be more proud of her play, especially because she used to be an outside hitter. It takes most players years of constant lessons and game experience to have these types of abilities. Miss Brown is a fantastic libero and she will definitely be a great asset my Alma Mater University of Houston once she steps on their campus. Please help me congratulate her on her movement up our rankings.
