Continue ReadingWe are proud of our second update to the 2022 Class. We have just witnessed some amazing accomplishments throughout this unpredictable year we have just had. Texas was fortunate to have almost a full high school season and is now finishing up this week with the State Playoffs. The 2022 class had a lot to do with how well their varsity teams did in the state playoffs. It is through their play during this past season that has helped us decide who should be where on the rankings. We always say that it is not an exact science, however proving it on the court in their position always helps solidify the analysis. We will be profiling players who were previously ranked in the state, but through great play, they made some serious moves up the rankings. Without further ado, here are a few players who moved up:
Averi Carlson Averi Carlson 6'0" | S Lovejoy | 2022 State #3 Nation TX [2022] 6-0 Setter (HS: Lovejoy/Club: Dallas Skyline/ Verbal: Baylor)
Let’s start at the very top of the list. Avery was originally ranked as the second best prospect in the state overall and have now moved her up to the absolute best. After seeing the entire high school season play out we decided to move her up to the top spot. She is now the best high school prospect according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. Previously we wrote, “Former national sophomore of the year according to Prepvolleyball.com is no stranger to success. Her lengthy frame allows her to be extremely deceptive when deciding to push the ball in front or behind her. She is such a gifted setter with extremely soft hands that led her high school team to a state title as only a Sophomore last year. This year she has her Dallas Skyline team running at a great pace against some great Texas Club competition. If you want to see a ball come off of a player’s hands smoothly, check this one out. She moves on the court as if she was born there. While it has taken a great deal of work to get to this level, she still makes everything look so easy. Baylor is getting one of the best setters they have ever recruited in this young lady. She will lead this program to greatness over the next few years since she is only a junior.” We have just recently wrote another article on her due to her team winning back to back UIL 5A Texas State Championships so this might seem pretty redundant, however, greatness like this will always be celebrated by us. This young lady deserves all of the recognition in the world due to her hard work on the court. It might seem easy due to the way she plays the game, but she has had many years of training in order to accomplish all she has. Please help us congratulate her on receiving the top honor in the 2022 class.
Alexis Dacosta Alexis Dacosta 5'10" | OH Fulshear | 2022 State #12 Nation TX [2022] 5-10 Outside (HS: Fulshear/Club: Houston Skyline/ Verbal: Baylor)
Alexis has moved up to the 5th ranked prospect in the 2022 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She was originally ranked as the 7th top prospect. Back in May when we profiled her school in an article we wrote the following, “Balanced footwork and total body strength comes to mind when I watch her play. Her feet are always balanced on the court and that allows her to play the ball well. She really engages her core when playing the ball and it is very evident in her high tempo attacks on the pins. She has all of the tools you want in a six rotation outside. The Baylor commit has a great chance to move up our rankings as the years go by. She is an outside hitter whose defensive skills are also outstanding. Alexis was named All-State last year as a sophomore and was also named MVP of the state tournament. Coach Gotcher says that she has never seen a high school player hit as hard as Alexis does. Her power is unmatched and she is virtually unstoppable. She is also a smart player and knows when to exchange power for smart ball placement.” The only thing that has changed is she proved once again just how great she can be on the court. It is one thing for people to talk and discuss who is the best but it is another for a player to show it on the court consistently. Alexis and her school moved up from winning the 4A state title last year to becoming runner up in the 5A state title chase. That is a huge accomplishment and although Fulshear has multiple division one prospects, it is definitely Miss Dacosta who leads the charge for them. Please congratulate her on moving up the state rankings.
Carlee Pharris Carlee Pharris 5'11" | S Brandeis | 2022 State #141 Nation TX [2022] 5-11 Setter/Right Side (HS: Brandeis/Club: Alamo/Verbal: TCU)
Please help us celebrate Miss Pharris as she has made a huge jump in the state rankings. We have just named her the 25th best overall prospect in the 2022 class. Carlee was originally ranked as the 34th best prospect in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. Earlier in April when we profiled her school Brandeis, we wrote the following, “Carlee is a six-rotation player as well and started for Brandeis last season as a Sophomore. Carlee has an energy on the court that is contagious. She wants to do great things, but gets just as excited for her teammates’ success as well. She was also selected to 1st team all district this past season. Carlee is committed to play at TCU just like her teammate. They will be a good combination for years to come.” This wonderful setter/right side has just had an amazing season along with her Brandeis squad. We knew they were going to be good when we profiled them, but we didn’t expect them to run the table as well as they did. They came out firing on all cylinders from the start of the season and didn’t stop until they were upset in their deep state playoff run. Carlee was one of the biggest reasons for their great season. She is a great teammate and wonderful person on and off the court. Please help us congratulate her on the movement as one of the best players in the entire state.
