Illinois teams stood out as well as plenty of top players. How do articles work at Prep Dig? We have scouts who watch as many courts as possible. Our “Notes” app on our phones are full of player jersey numbers, teams, and highlights over the course of the weekend. With hundreds of players we see over the course of the weekend, we put them into articles of various themes. Whether it’s particular position, graduating class, or any other creative themes we sprinkle in, we enjoy highlighting player performances of all levels. Here are a tremendous twelve of Illinois athletes who stood out at the Quad Cities Clash.
Campbell Paris – Sky High Adidas 16 Black
Sky High Adidas 16 Black was playing up in the 17/18s division where they were faced with early tough competition that they would see throughout the weekend. This team has a really scrappy setter in Maggie Duyos who can dish to a plethora of attackers. Campbell Paris is one who will be on the radar all season as a long, athletic pin hitter. She has a high contact point, makes her presence known at the net and will be a key piece to her team’s success in 2021.
It’s early, but some athletes to note
Campbell Paris – @SkyHighVB
Kelsey Todd – @Eastsidevbc96
Elle Schupbach – @Eastsidevbc96

Amanda Otten – Fusion 16 Red
Otten has the ability to be scary good, she already is extremely talented as a setter/right side combo player. She is over 6’0 tall, long, athletic, and really strong at the net. As a setter, she receives the ball high and can push it to either pin, and as an attacker she can score points with a big swing. At the net, she puts up a big block and is someone the other side of the net always has to account for.
Elle Schupbach – Eastside Ninjas 18U
Eastside Ninjas 18’s were a fun, athletic team to watch all weekend, finishing with a 4-1 record and winning some big three set matches. Schupbach is extremely dynamic in all six rotations and can be a point scorer from the backcourt as well. A fun athlete to watch who can create a lot of positive touches for her side of the net.
Amanda Holsen Amanda Holsen 5'11" | OH Stevenson | 2022 State #180 Nation IL – Sky High Adidas 17 Black
A violent attacker from the pin. Holsen is an outside hitter who can create plenty of point scoring opportunities for her team. She was able to use the high hands or blast away hard cross or down the line. This 17’s team from Sky High runs a fast tempo and has plenty of solid ball control that will make them extremely competitive this season.
Emily Buchta – Sky High Adidas 18 Black
This Sky High Adidas 18 Black team has a lot of strong athletes from the Class of 2021 and 2022. Buchta is in the middle where she is extremely active. I know with middle blockers, it is not always getting the kill and the stuff block, but closing the block, transitioning to be available, and doing the dirty work for their team. Buchta does that for her team where she has an extremely high motor.
Samantha Abruzzo – Fusion 18 Red
Extremely gritty. Abruzzo is a libero/ds for Fusion 18 Red where she knows how to take pace off a hard swing. She was solid against a high powered Iowa Rockets 17’s team who has a full lineup of D1 commits attacking. She was a standout defensively in this match. This Fusion 18 Red squad is full of high powered athletes, but still has some strong uncommitted 2021s to take a look at.
Kylie Hasselbacher – Eastside Ninjas 18U
Hasselbacher is extremely dynamic in the front row. I was able to see her in the middle, but I can see where she could swing from multiple positions. As I previously mentioned, I really enjoy middles who are active and aren’t afraid to work which is definitely Hasselbacher where she can block and transition to become an offensive threat.
Emme Patton – Eastside Ninjas 18U
So consistent. Patton was the libero for Eastside this weekend where she made all of the routine plays look easy. She is solid all the way from serve receive to being able to take pace off the ball. Efficient in her footwork and providing a solid first contact
Jaimie Marquardt – Sky High 15-1 NS
Definitely a 2024 libero to have on the radar early. She is a leader among her Sky High 15-1 North Shore team out of Libertyville that is going to be extremely competitive. Extremely athletic with a lot of range, Marquardt glides across the court and is able to make anticipate the next move and finds a way to get her offense in system.
Really like the energy of @SkyHighVB 15-1 NS Jaime Marquardt super smooth at Libero and lefty Makayla Weissenberg has been scoring points everywhere. Fun athletes to watch!

Makayla Weissenberg – Sky High 15-1 NS
Really fun athlete to watch. Weissenberg is a left right side with a really fast arm and can play six rotations. She scores points and isn’t afraid to take a big swing. With her athleticism and the no fear aggressive style she plays with is tough to find at the 15s level. She will be really fun to watch this season and throughout her career.
Ruth Ziegler – Sky High 15-1 NS
Major upside! Ziegler provides a major threat at the net where she can contribute offensiively and defensively. A big swing and presence with her block, Ziegler was key to the 15-1 NS squad’s 4-1 performance this past weekend.
Alayna Pierce – Fusion 15 Red
Pierce is an outside hitter for Fusion 15 Red where she isn’t afraid to take a big swing. The transition from 14s to 15s is a big jump, especially when Fusion was playing against a lot of top 16s teams this past weekend. Pierce has a heavy arm and will be a big time point scorer for this squad.
