However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
As we enter the 2B class, this is the Bi-County District and these are the players we picked:
Class of 2021
Kierstyn York – Outside Hitter/Middle-Blocker – Colfax
Kierstyn York is a scoring machine. The six-footer can be used as a middle-blocker or an outside hitter and regardless of where she hits the ball, opponents know it’s going to be difficult to stop her. That was certainly the case in 2019, when she used her tremendous reach, heavy arm and wise shot-selection to register 302 kills for the Bulldogs. She doesn’t shy away from the big stage either, having scored 19 and points in back-to-back matches of the 2019 State Championship, where she solidified her name as an All-League first-team member and an All-State second-team selection.
Class of 2022
Madi Zorn – Setter – Northwest Christian
Madi Zorn’s outstanding technique, high volleyball IQ and size allow her to perform well in any position on a volleyball court. Northwest Christian has primarily used their 5’8” prospect as a setter as it’s hard to argue against that as Zorn handed out 680 assists for the team in 2019 and excelled for her balanced distribution. She also contributed in other areas of the game, adding 107 aces, 140 digs, 80 kills and 13 blocks for the Crusaders. She has made it to the All-State and All-League teams in both of her seasons with the team.
Class of 2023
Ellie Denny – Setter – Liberty
Not many freshmen get to make a significant impact on strong teams right off the bat, but that was certainly the case with Ellie Denny and Liberty. The 5’8” setter proved to be a great fit with the Lancers in her first season of high school volleyball, significantly improving the team’s offense with her superior ball distribution and setting accuracy and offering some valuable help from the service line and with her blocking.
