However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
It’s time we dive into the 3A Pierce County district and these are the players we selected:
Class of 2021
Shaleese Nuckols – Libero – Wilson
Shaleese Nuckols’ backcourt presence was one of the highest points of Wilson’s last campaign in the district. The 5’3” libero used her outstanding technique and her smart positioning to generate a strong production for the Rams, most notably her team-highs in digs (253) and passes (300). Nuckols was also strong from the service line, registering 19 aces for her team.
Class of 2022
Charlise Johansen – Setter – Stadium
Charlise Johansen’s nice touch gave Stadium an edge in the district last season. The 5’6” prospect was a key element in the team’s two-setter system as she split duties with Mia Naccarato and the combination boosted the Lady Tigers’ offense in a special way. Johansen benefited from the playing system as she produced 273 assists (averaging 9.1 per set) and 74 digs for the team.
Class of 2023
Alaynah Salima – Opposite – Mount Tahoma
Not many freshmen got to play significant minutes in the district last season and Alaynah Salima was one of them. The 5’7” opposite wasn’t among the most used players by Mount Tahoma but showed some promising signs with eight kills, four aces, three blocks and 16 digs all registered in just 11 sets.
