Continue ReadingWe have written about all athletes on our ranking list at least once from the 2023 class and up. We are going back and giving more updates on each of the athletes on our list from the past high school season and current club season. This next installment of our series on the 2023 class has a little of everything. I tried to balance it out across the entire state. So without further ado, here are the updates of a few of the standouts from the 2023 class.
Lauren Ingram Lauren Ingram 6'1" | OH Hockaday | 2023 State TX [2023] 6-1 Outside (HS: Hockaday/Club: Drive Nation/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Lauren is currently ranked as the 55th top prospect in the State of Texas according to our Prep Dig Rankings in the class of 2023. We profiled her last summer and in the article we stated, “She is a lengthy pin hitter who scores on both sides of the court at will. Her ranking on this list has a lot to do with her potential for the future. She has extremely long arms and a super heavy hand. As she continues to grow into her body, we see tons of potential to be a good point scorer for any team she plays on. She has a lot of raw power and transitions well off of the net. You can’t teach height and she has a lot of it. We think she has a super high ceiling and can’t wait to see her grow as a player over the next few years. She plays for a great club program in Dallas Skyline and they will for sure have her college ready in a few years.” She has 97 kills, hit .195 and had 15 aces and 85 digs for Hockaday school so far on varsity. She is truly coming into her own on the court and getting better with every rep. She is now playing for Drive Nation and they are killing it this club season. She has helped them just earn a big to USA Nationals with a 3rdplace finish at the Mid East Qualifier a few weekend ago. We see tons of potential in this young lady and college coaches have already started to take notice. She has a super long reach and regularly hits over her opponents. Stay tuned for more updates as the club season progresses.
Karley Black Karley Black 5'10" | MB Rouse | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-11 Middle/Right Side (HS: Rouse/Club: Austin Performance/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Karley is currently the 31st ranked prospect for the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In our previous article last summer, we stated the following about Karley, “Miss Black plays for a great club program in her Austin Performance club out of the Austin area. She plays for a very good high school program in Rouse who loves to run her behind the setter with a slide approach. This kid has a lot of natural power in her attack and we see her as a solid presence in the middle as a blocker as well. Her upper body is very strong and it helps her seal the net from her opponents well, not to mention it also give her the ability to win jousts at the net. Overpasses are handled very well by this young lady. The aspect that I like the most is her ability to read the pass well before the opposing setter gets the set and she sets herself up well to stifle the defense. She is a kid who is always ready to receive the set out of the middle during transition. Karley is special because of her ability to hit both cut and cut-back out of the quick attack in front of the setter. We think she is capable of so much more as she grows on the court. We cannot wait to see what she does this coming season.” Well we are not surprised that she just improved in every category possible this past school season on varsity from her freshman year. She has accumulated 263 kills, hit .203, 60 blocks, and 40 aces in two seasons at Rouse. During her sophomore campaign, she helped them have an 18-7 overall record and a very impressive 13-1 district record. Due to her play on the court she has been recognized as an American Volleyball Coaches Association Phenom this past season. She is a special player who can score from any location and position on the court. Her strong arm showcases her power with both high tempo and quick tempo sets. We fully believe that she will continue to rise in our rankings over the next few years.
Genesis Casillas Genesis Casillas 5'11" | OH Cornerstone Christian | 2023 TX [2023] 5-10 Outside (HS: Brandeis/Club: Alamo/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Genesis is currently ranked as the 52nd top prospect in the State of Texas in the 2023 class according to Prep Dig. In a previous article last summer we wrote the following, “She has a very lengthy frame that is built to play on the pins. She plays on one of the best club teams in her age group with her Alamo squad. She never gives up on a play and is always ready to get the set. She hits the ball with a lot of pop and we know she will gain more power as she continues to grow into her body and gain strength. She is a true six rotation left side who passes extremely well on serve-receive. She has a solid natural touch on the ball when passing. She keeps her arms well away from her body, which allows her to control the soft touch on the pass and easily adjust her angle on the pass to the setter. She is able to hit both line and angle from the left side of the court, which keeps her offensive efficiency pretty high. Alamo occasionally uses her on the right side and it is this kind of adaptability on the court that will keep her on college radars in the future. We can’t wait to see what she does this coming high school season at Brandeis.” We were very impressed with how she played during her JV matches this past season. She is definitely one that will help Brandeis in the future as they graduate some of their seniors. They will be adding more firepower with her in the middle to an already talented varsity roster. She currently plays for Alamo 16 Elite and is a strong attacker for them. Her long frame allows her to have a very high reach when she attacks. She primarily plays outside for club and middle for school. Being a versatile player who can hit a variety of tempos and locations will only help her for the future. Stay tuned for more updates from the club season soon.
