Here is a look at five players from the Class of 2023 at 5A schools who were hitting machines in 2020.
MH, Aubrey Duncan Aubrey Duncan 6'0" | MB Free State | 2023 State KS , 6’0”, Free State – Duncan is one of the best players I watched in person from the Class of 2023. Duncan and hit from the middle or at the pins. She finished with a total of 250 kills in her sophomore campaign for the Firebirds. She is a Division I-type recruit and has a high volleyball season with two high school campaigns left to play.
OH, Madeline Schnepf, 5’9”, Mill Valley – Schnepf did not have one of her better matches in 2020 when I saw her in person, but Jaguar outside hitter is loaded with talent. Schnepf amassed 208 kills in her sophomore season. She saves her best performances in important matches as she finished with a season-high 13 kills against Olathe Northwest.
OH, Addy Brown, 6’2”, Derby – The Derby Panthers were upset in the postseason in 2020 and just missed being one of the final teams at the 6A State Tournament. Brown will be a key player as Derby hopes to return to the state tournament in 2021. She finished with 171 kills to go along with 141 digs. She could be a six-rotation player for the Panthers and is a tall-agile player.
S, Rylie Hallman, 5’7”, Liberal – Hallman can hit, set, and dig. She finished her sophomore season in Liberal with 138 kills. It will be interesting to see how the Redskins utilize her talent in 2021. She is a well-rounded team player that can serve as the backbone for a team.
MH, Elinor Engel, 6’0”, Shawnee Mission Northwest – Engel is a raw talent for the Cougars with a bright future. She played just 55 varsity sets in 2020 but finished with 109 kills. She can jump and has a nice reach.
