Continue ReadingThe start of the high school volleyball season in Washington is closer than ever and at this point, you should already be very familiar with the best teams and the most impressive players from each district as we analyzed them in detail for the last few months in our several different series.
However, we know one of the reasons why many of you follow high school volleyball is to try and anticipate which prospects have what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level and beyond. So, in this series, we’ll share our best guesses and list the top student-athletes from each of the next three graduating classes in each State district.
The 4A King County (KingCo) district features ten high schools and our selections are:
Class of 2021
Sadie Bacon Sadie Bacon 6'2" | MB Issaquah | 2021 State WA – Middle-Blocker – Issaquah
Sadie Bacon Sadie Bacon 6'2" | MB Issaquah | 2021 State WA is the unanimous selection for best middle-blocker in the district and also the top player on prepdig.com’s class of 2021 ranking for good reason. At 6’2”, the Issaquah prospect is long enough to make an impact at the net, as she did in 2019 with 226 kills and impressive 175 blocks, but she also got the skills to perform at the backcourt (thanks, beach volleyball!) – she registered 110 digs for the Eagles during the last season. Such a complete performance took Bacon to receive an All-League first-team nomination and to be included in the All-State team as an honorable mention.
Class of 2022
Bailey Showalter – Outside Hitter – Mount Si
When you think about an ideal outside hitter, she got to have the size to make a difference at the net but also the skills to lead the team’s defensive efforts, right? Well, you’ll find that and some more in Bailey Showalter. Her 6’1” size comes in handy at the net and her elite technical skill, which granted her a commitment to play collegiate beach volleyball for the prestigious University of Southern California, makes of her a complete player. If you’re a stats nerd, what about her 363-kill, 89-ace, 432-dig and 531-pass performance for the Wildcats in 2019? It took to be the district’s Co-Player of the Year and to earn an All-State team honorable mention.
Class of 2023
Kyleene Filimaua – Outside Hitter – North Creek
If there’s one reason Showalter wasn’t the single Player of the Year award in the district it’s called Kyleene Filimaua. The North Creek outside hitter started her high school career on fire and shared the spotlight with her in her freshman year. Filimaua is actually a very similar type of player when compared to Showalter as she’s six-feet tall, masters basically every skill of the game and has already secured a college commitment with an elite school – she’ll play volleyball and beach volleyball for Florida State. Her first year in high school left no questions about her game as she took the Jaguars to a fifth-place finish at the State Championship with 398 kills and 311 digs and earned a spot in the All-State first team.
