Continue ReadingThe most important tournament of the year for the class of 2021 players is just in front of us as the 2021 USAV Girls 18s Junior National Championship is set to happen from April 23-25 in Columbus, Ohio, and as many as 280 teams from the entire country are expected to compete in the five divisions.
Texas will, of course, be represented in the event and we will take the time between now and the start of the tournament in Ohio to present the teams that will carry the Lone Star State flag in Ohio, analyzing their campaigns in the club season so far and highlighting their most important players.
The AVA TX 18 Attack is one of the three teams that qualified to represent the state in Ohio in the 18 Patriot Division and here’s our preview:
One of the teams out of the Absolute Volleyball Academy in Webster, southeast of Houston, AVA TX 18 Attack has had a positive season so far with 27 wins and 12 losses. The team coached by Kirsten Kubicek finished second at the AVA #4 and was third in the AVC’s 18 National Qualifier, both in February.
Here are their key players:
Teia Woodson – Middle-Blocker – HS: Clear Springs – 2021
Don’t let Teia Woodson’s 5’11” frame make you overlook her. The middle-blocker is extremely physical and athletic and uses her speed to outpace taller and slower middles across the net. Her offensive game is very explosive and she has a wide arsenal of sets she can hit, being a true nightmare for middles across the net to stop. Her blocking game is just as good as she’s got a good reading and can get up over the net real quick. At the collegiate level, she’ll play for Hill College.
Kenedi Miller – Libero – HS: Clear Brook – 2021
The 5’6” Kenedi Miller had a solid high school season as an outside hitter but her superior defensive skills moved her to libero when club season started. She’s a solid presence for AVA TX 18 Attack at the backcourt and plays a pivotal role in the team’s playing system. Miller is a very fast and technical defender and had a very complete game, a benefit of also playing beach volleyball. She’s very confident about her game and can serve and set from behind the attack line very well too. The next steps of her career will happen at the Sam Houston State University.
Seleste Harris – Right Sider/Outside Hitter – HS: Pearland – 2021
Seleste Harris is pure power at the net. The 5’10” prospect can jump really high and she hits the ball very hard from either side of the net. She’s also a great deal of finesse on her game and can shot the ball around and hit unlikely angles if she needs to. She’s proficient from anywhere on the net and can even hit from the middle, giving her setter a lot of flexibility. Harris, who can also play as an outside hitter, will continue her career at the Mississippi Valley State University.
