Continue ReadingWe have written about all athletes on our ranking list at least once from the 2023 class and up. We are going back and giving more updates on each of the athletes on our list from the past high school season and current club season. This next installment of our series on the 2023 class has a little of everything. I tried to balance it out across the entire state. So without further ado, here are the updates of a few of the standouts from the 2023 class.
Ella Chaney Ella Chaney 6'2" | MB Prosper | 2023 State TX [2023] 6-1 Middle (HS: Prosper/Club: Dallas Skyline/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Ella is the 33rd ranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In a previous article last summer we wrote the following, “She has a lot of potential to be a fantastic middle for the foreseeable future. She will undoubtedly keep growing and has a great frame for the position. She has a very strong lower and upper body. Ella has a great reach, which helps her pound overpasses to her opponents with ease. Dallas Skyline uses her to run all tempos and locations along the net, which will help her blossom into a fantastic player for them. She plays for one of the best high school programs around right now in Prosper high school. She is able to run 31s, slides, and of course 51 quick sets. We ranked her this high due to her versatility. She also plays some right side for them and is able to hit high tempos on the pin as well. Take note of her name now as she will make some waves in the future. We are looking forward to watching her grow her game.” This past season, Ella truly stepped up her game for her varsity squad during her sophomore campaign. She tallied 149 kills on a whopping .344 hitting percentage, she also added 62 blocks and 23 aces. She was a huge reason why Prosper went 17-4 overall and 11-1 in district play. We see a lot of potential in Miss Chaney and know she is ready for a breakout season during her junior year this coming fall. Stay tuned for some highlights of her club season with her awesome Dallas Skyline squad.
Ava Harrington Ava Harrington 6'2" | MB Episcopal | 2023 State #69 Nation TX [2023] 6-1 Middle (HS: Episcopal/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miss Harrington comes in as the 35th ranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. Last summer we stated the following about Ava, “She plays for a very great club program in Houston Skyline who has played against some of the best competition across the country in the past couple of years. She is also a member of a State Championship High School program in Episcopal as they won the SPC title last year in the private school division. She will help them as they have a great chance to go back to back this season. Ava is long and skilled as she can hit both in the middle and on the pins. She will likely move up the rankings in my next update in late October as she continues to progress on the court. This kid is not only tall, but she can also fly. Her super fast arm swing makes it very difficult for her opponents to slow her offensive attack. She is definitely someone for college coaches to watch out for.” Miss Harrington earned more of a starring role for her Episcopal varsity team this past season and she impressed everyone with improving her stats from her freshman season. In two years on varsity she has amassed 126 kills, 38 blocks and a solid .210 hitting percentage. We fully expect more production out of her in the coming season as she has gotten even more experience with her Houston Skyline club team. What has been impressive during the club season is her improved blocking as she has been a wall lately. She has also improved her hand contact as she is getting on top of the ball well and making it hard for defenders to touch her ten foot line kills. Stay tuned for more updates soon.
Kylie Mueller Kylie Mueller 6'0" | OH Dulles | 2023 State TX [2023] 6-0 Outside (HS: Dulles/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Kylie comes in as the 45th ranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We stated the following about Miss Mueller last summer, “She is a six rotation outside hitter who also plays for Houston Skyline. She is from the southwest side of Houston and plays for Fort Bend Dulles High School. Kylie has a great arm swing with a lot of power. What I truly like is how she is able to move the ball around and score in a variety of ways. She will be a point scorer for the rest of her career due to this shot making ability. It is a great way to keep defenses off-balance. Kylie is already able to do this at a young age very well. She is able to hit on both pins and score both line and angle. What stands out when you watch her play is her uncanny ability to time each high tempo set even though the set will be sometimes well inside of the outside location. She adjusts her footwork so well and it doesn’t mess with her ability to send a hard driven attack to her opponent.” Kylie has been nothing short of a stud for her varsity team in only two years. She has accumulated 594 kills on a .300 hitting percentage out of the left pin. She also has 92 blocks, 65 aces and 537 digs. We cannot wait to see what she does during her junior campaign knowing how much growth we have seen so far. How does she better herself after she already earned 20-6A Co-MVP of the district? The only thing we know is we are eagerly awaiting that answer on the court. Stay tuned.
