Continue ReadingWe have written about all athletes on our ranking list at least once from the 2023 class and up. We are going back and giving more updates on each of the athletes on our list from the past high school season and current club season. This next installment of our series on the 2023 class has a little of everything. I tried to balance it out across the entire state. So without further ado, here are the updates of a few of the standouts from the 2023 class.
Sophia Luo Sophia Luo 6'0" | RS Westlake | 2023 State TX [2023] 6-0 Right Side (HS: Westlake/Club: Austin Performance/ Verbal: Uncommitted)
Sophia is the 16th ranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We profiled her as a freshman and we stated the following, “She is a very talented right side who plays for two great programs in Austin Westlake HS and Austin Performance Volleyball Club. She reaches high on her block and her attack to get maximum height. She shows a lot of promise on her offense by moving the ball around and scoring on all areas of the court. She can hit deep corners well on her cross court shot and use her upper body well to hit line on the pins. Her club team was extremely talented last year and we are looking forward to seeing how she progresses in the coming years. I like how she uses her arms on her upswing to add as many inches as she can on her vertical during her attack. She is pretty quick off of the ground with her footwork. She shows good bounce which will help her as she grows in the game.” She stepped up her game tremendously as a sophomore on varsity from her freshman season. In two short years she has already tallied 126 kills, on a .289 hitting percentage. She has also added 50 blocks, and 28 digs. She was instrumental in Westlake going 15-5 overall and 11-3 in district. She will likely have a larger role moving forward into her junior season. This season she has been doing very well with her Austin Performance team as they are once again one of the teams to beat in their age group. This young lady hits the ball at a good clip and we will have more updates on the club season soon.
Macy Taylor Macy Taylor 5'10" | OH Sachse | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-10 Outside (HS: Sachse/Club: Dallas Premier/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miss Taylor comes in as the 49th ranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In the last article when we first profiled Miss Taylor we stated, “This six rotation outside hitter has ball control for days. She can place the volleyball anywhere she wants to offensively. It is definitely a sight to see as she paints the line with ease routinely. The ability to do this at this age is fantastic for a coach to watch. She shows a lot of promise to become a great player moving forward throughout the years. I love how deep she gets at her left side touch point so she can get as much momentum behind her four step approach to help her vertical. Macy definitely has great offensive ball control but she can unload when she wants to. Her power is a little surprising when she swings hard cross. You don’t really expect her size to unleash that much power but its there and it is fun to watch. Give this young lady a look or two and you wont be disappointed.” We couldn’t be more proud of Miss Taylor as she truly came alive this past high school season compared to her freshman campaign. She was able to help her Sachse squad compile an overall record of 22-3 and a district record of 12-1. Macy improved in every category in the stat book also. In two years on varsity she has amassed 224 kills, 38 blocks, 361 digs, and 57 aces. We are looking at her to continue the winning tradition next season as she steps into an even larger role as a junior. This young lady is a star and she is ready for the next challenge. We will have more updates on her club season soon.
Katie Hill Katie Hill 5'10" | MB Reagan | 2023 State TX [2023] 5-10 Middle/Outside (HS: SA Reagan/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Katie comes in as the 51st ranked prospect in the 2023 Class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We profiled Miss Hill as a freshman and we stated the following about her, “She is a very skilled and lengthy middle who has a very high ceiling in the position. I love her motor and how athletic she is. She possesses a lightning quick arm swing and a snap that send the ball with some serious pop to her opponents. She can run every route in the middle position with speed. When I watch her play, I see so much potential. I love her posture at the net and how she reads the play on the other side to set up her block. She is a swing-blocking middle with great timing. Katie plays at a great high school program in Reagan and will no doubt help them succeed this year as they have a very talented team.” I was able to watch this young lady in person and she is worth the price of admission. The most fun aspect about her abilities has to be her uncanny composure and confidence. She was a big reason why her SA Reagan HS team was able to go on such a deep run in the UIL 6A State playoffs. There was not a game that was too big for her as a sophomore as she answered the bell quite often when her team needed an extra boot on offense. She swings for the fences every time and celebrates her kills with enthusiasm. Reagan went 21-4 overall and 14-2 in district last season. They graduated a few talented players but with Miss Hill returning, she will be one of the players to pick up the slack and stay competitive once again. We will have more updates on her club season with her talented Alamo squad soon. I have a feeling this one will be moving up the rankings once I finish with the updates in the coming weeks.
