As just in time for the girls’ season to end, the boys’ season has just begun. There are plenty of players who are looking to give themselves a chance at the spotlight. Let’s take a look at some players to be on the look out for.
CJ Barker (Don Bosco)
Barker has great athleticism as an outside hitter. He recorded 101 kills and 14 blocks back in Spring 2019. Now, he’s more in a leadership role. Watch for him to showcase his athleticism in all phases as a passer, blocker and hitter.
Konrad Bieniek (Jackson Memorial)
Bieniek has been the anchor of the Jackson Memorial defense throughout his career. He has 607 digs total in his first two seasons. His volleyball IQ is off the charts along with great court position to understand where the ball is most likely going to go. On this young season, he may be showcasing his offensive ability with 7 kills so far.
Zack Choi (Livingston)
Choi is the catalyst for the Livingston offense. As a setter, it seems to look effortless at times and pinpoint accuracy always give his teammates an opportunity to score. Choi has demonstrated this already in this young season with 41 assists through two matches. When Livingston is playing, Choi has fingerprint on the match.
Jack Dooling (Christian Brothers)
Dooling is an all-around outside with the tools to punish his opponent from anywhere on the court. Not only with his power but with his creativity. Dooling can showcase so much variety as a hitter that allows him to be successful. He’s done this already this season as he racked up 10 kills in his only match so far.
Tyler Jones (Washington Township)
Jones is a player one can talk about a year of growth. He went from 25 assists his first season to 677 in the next. Yes, he had 677 assists back in spring of 2019. I can only imagine what he’s going to do in an encore. It would shock me if he doesn’t get half of that number even in a shortened season. Watching him set is mesmerizing and he never has a bad set.
Andrew Lukaszewski (Colonia)
Lukaszewski is the libero for Colonia and he seems to be all over the court. His effort and engine is wild along with being a quality passer. They’re a fantastic combo of traits. If Colonia wants to be successful, it will be behind his defense to lead the way. He gets to balls that many are not because of a quality first-step.
If the girls season is any benchmark, the boys season is going to be just as good. Enjoy the season and it may not go perfectly but cherish every chance you get to play.
