We see plenty of high-level players who we’ve known about for the past few years, and others who caught my eye and will certainly be ones to watch this fall. Here are some athletes who made an impression this past weekend!
#7 Ella Johnson Ella Johnson 5'11" | OH Minneota | 2024 State MN – 2024 – 5’9 – Pin Hitter – Dawson-Boyd – Kandi Elite 15-1 (MN)
Johnson helped her team finish the weekend with plenty of momentum and really raised her game when her team counted on her. She has a knack for finding the split and exposing open court wherever she is hitting from.
#9 Callie Teff – 2021 – 5’10 – Pin Hitter – Foley – OMG 18s (MN)
Teff is long and really natural at the net. She can put up a solid block but provides a wicked swing in order to score from either pin. With Teff and setter, Makayla Balder, connecting, it really keeps a defense on edge.
#28 Jaeda Gieser – 2021 – 5’10 – Middle Blocker – Waterloo West – Smash Elite 18 Black (IA)
Watching Gieser run a quick tempo is so fun when she connects with her setter. Her ability to control the net with an extensive reach really creates a tough mismatch for the other side of the net. Gieser explodes from the court and takes a fast swing. The best part is that she is a pro at working the sharp angles. Smash has a really physical and tenacious team with plenty of solid athletes out of Iowa.
#21 Lily Robinson – 2021 – Outside Hitter – Eau Claire Air 18 Blue – Committed to University of St. Francis (IN)
Robinson was a gamechanger on the outside for Eau Claire Air 18 Blue. She is athletic, has solid ball contact, and puts some oomph behind her swing. This Indiana native has a big heavy swing that commands respect.
#62 Alexa (Lexi) Dhein – 2024 – Libero – Green Bay New Lutheran – One Wisconsin Bay 15 Momentum (WI)
Dhein was a key piece in the back court for 1W Bay 15 Momentum. She can take care of the routine stuff as well as get a ton of touches and big hustle plays, which creates a frustration for the other side of the net. Dhein plays with a lot of energy and gives her team a spark when she hustles into the chairs to bring a ball back in play.
#12 Addison Rossum Addison Rossum 5'11" | S Alexandria | 2025 State MN – 2025 – 5’11 – Setter/Right Side Hitter – Alexandria – Kandi Elite 15-1 (MN)
Rossum is a do-it-all player, but versatility is just one of many strengths. She does a great job accurately zone-serving. Rossum has height and a great wingspan that gives her a high contact point, making her tough to block.
#24 Sahara Williams – 2023 – 5’10 – Outside Hitter – Waterloo West – Smash Elite 18 Black (IA)
Williams is an electric hustler! If a player gets a touch on the first contact, you know she will bust it to bring that ball back in play and give her team a jolt of energy and excitement. Williams is a six-rotation outside who can do a little bit of everything. She does a nice job hand digging out of the middle back and taking care of so much court. Williams also has great leaping ability and a violent swing that will be seriously dangerous in the next couple years. Even more impressive are her intangibles. Her tenacity, strength, and relentless pursuit are contagious for her team. Oh, and she is playing up 2 age levels.
