The Badger Region 17s was no different as more new names popped up as well as familiar names we’ve seen over the past couple of years from the Wisconsin high school and club volleyball scene. For some of these athletes, its been quite a month pulling double duty of club and the alternate high school season. Here are a few new names, along with some familiar ones to know from the Class of 2022 at the Badger Region Championships.
Chloe Werner – Sting Burlington United – 17 Orange
When a right side can take over a match, that says something. That was Chloe Werner in a pool play match where she brings a thunderous swing. She provides solid hand contact, is fast to the ball, and violent with her arm swing, aggressive. Scoring points at key times, for a team who plays with plenty of spark and fire, Werner is one who can always be an outlet for the right side which can be tough to find.
Really strong and physical right side in Chloe Werner playing for @StingBurlington – scoring a lot of points and a huge spark for her squad!
Ella Luoma Ella Luoma 5'6" | DS/L Franklin | 2022 State WI setting the tone from the service line as well. pic.twitter.com/fbUUwBlECf— Chris Fitzgerald (@PrepDigChris) March 27, 2021
Ella Luoma Ella Luoma 5'6" | DS/L Franklin | 2022 State WI – Sting Burlington United – 17 Orange
Luoma is solid. The libero for this squad isn’t flashy with the diving plays or knocking over the first row of chairs, but is efficient with her footwork, platform awareness, and solid in serve receive. She is also the type who can get it started from the service line with a hard, flat serve scoring points herself.
Paige Yelmene Paige Yelmene 5'8" | S DSHA | 2022 State WI – 414 Milwaukee Elite
Yelmene runs the show for this squad who has plenty of strong athletes out of the Milwaukee area. Quick hands and a smooth release, Yelmene can push it to all the tempos and knows how to get the ball to the right attackers. One of the solid connections was with Yeleme and DSHA middle, Julia Wojciak Julia Wojciak 6'1" | MB DSHA | 2022 State WI .
Cassandra Alsum Cassandra Alsum 5'9" | OH Randolph | 2022 State WI – Milwaukee Sting 17 White
Alsum can be used as a DS or an outside hitter. No matter what position she plays, she plays with an aggressive spark that is contagious for the rest of her team. I was able to see her on Saturday of pool play on the pin where she was high flying. She is able to use the block to her advantage or blast through the seam. Alsum will be a Senior at Randolph and her squad will be a front runner in D4 come this fall.
Delaney McIntosh Delaney McIntosh 5'10" | DS/L Verona | 2022 State WI – Capital 17 Adidas
McIntosh is one who has been pulling double duty for Verona High School and Capital and is also one who can play multiple positions. Another high school and club teammate, Claudia Bobb Claudia Bobb 5'10" | OH Verona | 2022 State WI , plays along side her as well where they combine to make a solid defensive tandem. McIntosh can swing on the pin and was able to wear the libero jersey this weekend. Same with Bobb. They will be looking to continue their success at Capital as well as make an impact in the WIAA Alternate Postseason which starts this weekend.
Britten Bertagnoli Britten Bertagnoli 6'0" | MB Janesville Craig | 2022 State WI and Ella Denoyer – Madison Sting United 17 Red
Bertagnoli and Denoyer and strong, athletic, and physical at the net where they can play multiple positions. Bertagnoli on the outside and Denoyer out of the middle and right side. They provide a strong block, score points, and make their presence known for this team who has always been a strong force to be reckoned with this past club season.
Bella Van Lannen Bella Van Lannen 6'0" | RS Appleton North | 2022 State WI – FC Elite 17 Navy
Van Lannen is long and is the type who can provide a big block on the right side and can also run routes out of the middle where she knows how to find the open spot and can attack the corners. Van Lannen is part of a high powered Appleton North squad who is a favorite to win the alternate season. For North, she’ll play out of the middle and for FC Elite she is a force on the right side. Her upside is dangerous with how fast she has improved over the past season since last summer.
Hadley Strohkirch Hadley Strohkirch 5'8" | DS/L Oconomowoc | 2022 State WI – 414 Milwaukee Elite
Storhkirch is another athlete who is solid, consistent, and knows how to provide a steady first contact for her squad. She knows how to anticipate, be in the right spot before the ball gets there, and makes the first pass look easy. When she can connect with setter, Paige Yelmene Paige Yelmene 5'8" | S DSHA | 2022 State WI a favorite target for this team is outside Grace Martens who is a point scorer on the pin.
Izzy Coon – Fond du Lac Fusion 17 Purple (Title Photo)
Coon just makes it happen for her team. She leads by example and with a confident demeanor all coaches want to see in their setter. A top all-around athlete in her area, she is one plenty of school want to take note of not only for her ability on the court, but a culture impact as well. She is also leading St. Marys Springs out of Fond du Lac to a solid alternate season where they have a top seed heading into regional play.
Commitment Updates!
Be patient Class of 2022. With college coaches recruiting while also having a season at the same time the landscape has changed a little bit. However, the past couple of weeks has provided some updates commits from the Class of 2022.
